Thanks for all the prayers

Quite a year

Well I haven't been able to do a lot of posting but figured I would say I am still kicking.
Lots of stuff going on and after several days in the hospital and loosing 20 pounds I am up and about and trying to fatten up.
My wife is more a blogger than I and the skinny is here.

We just returned from D.C. where we made an effort to get
D.O.D. funding for stomach cancer research. Since it has a big military connection.
Please call your representative and advocate for DOD funding. Stomach cancer is in the top 5 for being deadly and LAST in funding.
We did a lot of walking and it wasn't easy.
I think it did me good
Well anyhow more is on the link and Debbie's Dre.am Foundation was the sponsor of Advocacy Day.
Many folks didn't make it because of canceled flights.
We hit the road running adapting overcoming. I think we did good and hope stomach cancer gets heck kicked out of it.

This is one of the least funded and 5 most deadly cancers out there.

That's it for now and I am ignoring the 4% odds on stage 4 since someone has to be in the 4% survival rate.
I have things to do before going Home.

Well the liver tumor has shrunk.
They say the dying tumor could have been causing the pain near the diaphragm. What ever hurt has stopped now. So I won't whine
We have been busy trying to get stomach cancer funds from a DOD package.

I think wife needs them more than I do now. This hit here hard.
I figure we are here by God's grace and He will call us home in his time. The ones left re will be along shortly [ in His time]
Just tough thinking of here here to carry on alone. She is care giver for her folks too. So a prayer for Traci would be appreciated also.

I know where you're coming from since I just went through a bout of lung cancer. Lung removed but still went through chemo and radiation so far I'm clear!
Have to say as well that I couldn't have done it without my wife!;)
Keep the positive thoughts going!
 
More prayers sent for you and your family. It seem like the only thing golden about the golden years is the doctors get all the gold.

hey IBEW from an old Laborer's 264 KC, Mo hand. Like you & hoc that posts here too, I'm stage 4 cancer, lung & liver NSC adenocarcinoma. Started out with a tumor in a lobe of my R lung in 1999...... had that lobe removed, & chemo....... was in remission until 2013 when it returned.. 2 more tumors R lung......... had them removed then had the entire R lung removed........... 3 big surgeries & 7 small procedures (1 hour to 3 hours long) in 2013...... The cancer came back 2 tumors in my L lung, & a large one in my liver..............I can't have any more surgery & I'm not a candidate for radiation........ So far chemo has worked extremely well, the 2 tumors in my L lung cannot be detected now, & the large one in my liver hasn't grown or changed. He has truly blessed me with this. They gave me 4-6 weeks to 4-6 months to live in April of 2000.. Our Father gave me 13 years of gravy time...So I understand what you are going through...........

Back when I had my first tumor out in 1999, the Pediatrics Oncology wing was 25 feet from my room & thru a double door...... when you see those beautiful little bald headed angels that are fighting for each day of life..........you realize how much our Father has given all of us old farts..

we've been fortunate enough to fall in love, raise a family of good kids & have grandkids & great grandkids ....a lot of these children with cancer will never be well enough to go to their first dance, must less date, fall in love, get married etc etc etc..............We must never fall into the trap of feeling sorry for ourselves........instead we must always be so grateful for the long full lives our Father has given us.

the only way I found that I could deal with this disease is to ask Him for help, in the Name of His Son, and by putting it in our Father's Hands, according to His Will.........until I did this I was going nuts with worry & spending hours each day on the computer looking for medical trials etc. etc. etc. Rely on Him to guide the hands & eyes of your healers,, and leaving it according to His Will & His Plan.

Several things that you'll discover about having a serious illness/ medical problem........ it is far easier on the patient than it is on our families..... Our good ladies, who have been able to solve any problem that a can come up for any member of her family, can't fix these problems & it leaves them feeling helpless.......I try to always tell my lady how beautiful she is each day, to compliment her on what she does & to always tell her & our loved ones thank you & that I love them..........and that is someone makes a mistake, to learn to forgive & forget and to try and look at problems from several viewpoints before making a decision.......

If you're having some serious pain, the docs will give you meds for it..... we learned to never chase it, but to take the meds before it gets bad... you'll end up taking far fewer meds that way.

But taking those strong meds means that I cannot drive, Missouri's law on driving under the influence (DUI) includes impairment by alcohol, legal prescribed meds & illegal drugs..... I also quit reloading, friends/lodge bros come over & use our gear to reload for us & themselves......

all those safety talks we gave & or listened to at work every week brought it home on our responsibilities to our families.....it is up to us to know when it was/is time to hang up our car keys........ now if I think I'm going to have to drive, or that we might shoot, I won't take any pain meds after my 4:00AM meds.

Know that you are in my prayers

I am on no pain meds as of yet. I hate the constipation :( seems to work and no driving restrictions. I used it for back issues in the past. Also muscle relaxers in the evening only.
So far my back feels a lot better I thought it was an old back injury. WRONG , I should have in 6 weeks back.
The Lord is keeping us here for a reason.

for the constipation, try something called Miralax... it's a powder that easily dissolves in water/OJ etc......... you can easily adjust the dose for what works for you.. One of my pre-chemo drugs ,a steroid,( taken the day before chemo, day of chemo, day after), really constipates me bad, the miralax really helps. My lady sections me up a large apple & gives me a slice or two of good cheese every night for a healthy snack..............this helps too, and when I don't have to take the steroids, is enough that I don't need the miralax.

something else... if you start coughing up stuff........ as long as it is clear, don't worry about it......... but as soon as it turns that funky green/yellow stuff that I call the "green chunky monkey" call your oncologist or family doc for an appointment & get a sputum sample done ASAP, you'll notice the difference in taste to the sputum & texture too......chances are you've picked up a lung infection/pneumonia that will require antibiotics to cure........

a healthy person (not on chemo/with a strong immune system) would be able to shake it off without antibiotics..not us... we need to start the antibiotics just as soon as possible......This has happened to me twice since last fall, both times we had to post-pone chemo for one week. I take mine every 21 days.
 
Seven weeks of chemo possibly twelve weeks and test later.

I hope to have some fun this summer anyhow.

4 more weeks of chemo, a break ,test then ?????
 
Things happen that should not but that had to be terrifying.
Good news on the lung rattle, tough one on the upcoming reaming.
If I read right you had to cut short the last of the chemo by a week?

Wishing you the best possible outcome and hoping you continue to pull through.
 
Still in our prayers here too hand...so far since I started chemo last year, it has fought the big tumor in my liver to a draw... no new growth, or changes... & the 2 masses in my lung are undetectable still.. so like you, I give thanks to Him & to all those who prayed for me too........

Well guys I thank you all for the kind comments PMs and cards.

The latest news today was a head spinner.
It has been a tough year and things seem to be e staying the course.

What we are praying for now is that I qualify for a Clinical Trial with M.D. Anderson in Houston Texas. This place is the premier stomach cancer research facility in our Republic.

As always Thanks for the prayers and Don't Give Up The Ship.
