So I went to the range Friday and had a great time as usual. (Operative words are: "Great time as usual.")
Guy next to me looks at my two revolvers and screws up his face (that has to hurt on some level) and says,"They make auto pistols now."
I look at this obviously sarcastic, uniformed, and ignorant guy (substitute the word "fool" if you'd like) and I say to him, "I see you've never had the pleasure of owning a revolver. One day, when you get bored of all those autos you might read about and invest in a revolver. You'll get the pleasure of the old times and maybe even a piece of history."
Now, granted, this guy was about 25 years younger than me, and he's still at the stage where he thinks he's cool because he shoots an automatic. Good for him - I hope he's happy.
Has something like this ever happened to you? Did you ever pull on the disdain and disgust of your neighbor in the next position because you were shooting a revolver? I'd really like to know.
Thanks -
Rich
THAT HAS HONESTLY NEVER HAPPENED TO ME. WHEN I SHOOT ON A RANGE, I AM USUALLY ACCOMPANIED BY MY SHOOTING PARTNER, A FELLOW VIETNAM VETERAN. OUR GRIZZLED APPEARANCE, VETERAN'S GARB, AND TARGETS--USUALLY WITH ONE RAGGED HOLE, DISSUADES ANYONE WHO MIGHT WANT TO APPROACH ONE OF US WITH A NEGATIVE COMMENT, ABOUT OUR REVOLVERS......
IF YOU LOOK AT A TARGET, SHOT BY ONE OF THESE YOUNG MORONS, WHO IS USUALLY ARMED WITH A HI-CAP, 9MM, A SHOT GROUP WOULD BE A RANDOM OCCURRENCE.....
HONESTLY, WHENEVER ONE OF US HAS BEEN APPROACHED, IT HAS USUALLY BEEN WITH AN EXPRESSION OF ADMIRATION, OR THANKS FOR OUR SERVICE (50 YEARS TOO LATE IN COMING, BUT APPRECIATED ANYWAY) WE ALWAYS OFFER WORDS OF ENCOURAGEMENT, IN A FRIENDLY MANNER, TO LESS ACCOMPLISHED SHOOTERS, IF WE ARE APPROACHED.......
BTW--WE BOTH OWN COLT, 1911s IN .45ACP, AS WELL. AT OUR ADVANCED AGE, WE WOULD RATHER SHOOT A WEAPON THAT DROPS EMPTY BRASS IN A NEAT PILE, ON THE BENCH, THAN WANDERING AROUND IN A CROUCH, POLICING UP BRASS, STREWN ALL ABOUT THE RANGE.......
