That look of disgust . . .

Had a rookie that kept poking at me about carrying a revolver, kept saying that Glock was the ultimate handgun and that I really should update my choice of duty weapon. At the time I was carrying a 5 inch Model 29 on duty. Went to a qualification range with him. The RO would always let me shoot in Station 1 so I didn't have to dodge brass from the autoloaders. I asked the RO to put the rookie in Station 2, and he agreed with a grin on his face. I told the rookie that if he outshot me on any stage of the qualification table, I'd go buy a Glock and carry it. The first stage was double tap at 3 feet. When I touched off the first two rounds, the rookie visibly jumped and he completely missed his target. The RO said that you could see him flinch at every stage when I would shoot. Still don't own a Glock...
 
As I posted in another post, I bought a nickel Model 58 at the gun show today.

My 28 year old son came over to pick up his dog as we had been dog sitting for him while he and his wife went on vacation. He picked up the Model 58 and looked over it with interest. (He is a police officer who carries one of those things that I will not speak of). He then said "what is it, a 357?" I told him it was a .41 Magnum. He said "what's that?" He had never heard of a .41 Mag. He has been around guns all his life and has shot my revolvers since he was able to do so. He cut his teeth on a 1911, but now seems to have gone to the dark side. I bought him a Model 442 to carry as a backup/off duty gun. He qualified with it and carried it until he bought a single stack ______. I won't even type the hideous word.

I assume that I will have to liquidate my collection as he shows no interest in a revolver. He would probably trade my Registered Magnum or first year .44 Magnum even for a piece of plastic.
 
I heard this rather young RO mention if he had his way no revolvers would be shot here. His problem was he grew up on the plastic autos and does not know much about Revs.

About a year ago, Lynn and I had something close to that happen. As per normal both of us were shooting revolvers, when a young female R.O walked by to see what was going on. Lynn gave her his normal and well done revolver intro. I then let her shoot my 38/44, first with light target loads, then amped it up to some real 38/44 ammo. Our young friend was surprised with the difference in the ammo, and she had a good time as well.
 
Never had any comments on a revolver, but I was shooting my H&R Model 195 single shot at 50 feet indoors once, at a 50-foot NRA target, of all things, when a couple of young kids were practicing unloading their wondernines at some fat-human-size targets at what I would like to say was 7 yards, but they were probably closer than that. I think my group at fifty feet would have fit between any two shots on their humongous targets.

At least they didn't say anything stupid, and I had no desire to make them feel worse than they might have already felt.
 
I caused some disdain this morning. I was touching off full house .44RM's from a 3" 629-1. During a reload I heard the guy two stalls away say to the guy next to me "Glad Im not next to him." :)

And all of my rifles have bolt actions to boot.......


When I take revolvers to the range, I'll take 3-4 (all 38/357). I get some looks, especially when shooting lead and the lube "smokes". I DO notice how much less ammo I go through versus a semi in the same amount of time..........that saves money... ;)
 
Similar thing happened just two weeks ago. My girlfriend is shooting her 686 3" at the range and I am standing behind her. Some lady starts looking at here and says to her husband: " Look, she has one of those old timey cowboy guns." and they smirk. Oh course my girlfriend was putting every round in the inner circle at 20 yards on an 8 inch target, while they were spraying their shots all over the target. I just smiled internally and let it go.
 
I always have 2 revolvers with at the indoor range along with anyone of my 1911's. I like to wait until everyone is shooting in the other 14 lanes with there plastic 9's, than I touch off 2 quick shots from my 460 S&W that throws 4+ feet of flame. The whole place goes dead silent and I hear people mumbling *** was that, than they start coming over for a look. I show them the Beast, and ask them if they want to try it, most say NO, but you always get someone who sez heck yes.
At one time I had 3 different sized S&W M&P's in 40 caliber, but they all were sold and replaced by Colt 1911's in 45acp. I like my semi-autos all steel, just like my revolvers.

That thought crossed my mind as well. But isn't it always funny to refer to people as "sarcastic, uninformed, and ignorant" or as a "fool" when that other person isn't around? It's always good for a laugh on Internet forums, but it's probably best not to do it to someone's face.
 
I usually have a couple wheel guns and a couple of 1911s with me when I go to the range. I have also gotten comments on the low capacity of either of my choices sitting on the table and questions on why I don't have a 9mm Glock or M&P. I explain I have those at home, but there is something soulful about shooting a .357 wheel gun or a 1911. If they express honest interest, I will let them run some rounds through them which usually results in big grins and I'm sure a few thoughts of "huh, maybe I ought to get one of these things."

I have realized there are gun snobs everywhere you go in the world. Some of you may cringe, but my DC used to be a Taurus PT145 (10 rounds of very concealable .45) when they first came out. It always went bang and the hole was within tolerance of where I was aiming. While running some rounds through it, I had a guy with a completely tricked out Kimber (jeweled everything and he must have polished it nightly with a diaper) come to the lane next to me and give me **** about my Taurus. He went from flaming jerk to just a gun snob when he saw my target. He had to keep making comments and asked how I could trust my like on a piece of plastic junk like that. I explained I had over 1500 rounds at the time, it always went bang and it is cheap. I dared him to go out into the concrete parking lot with me and we'd each push our DCs out of the holster onto the concrete and we'd see who cried harder and longer. If mine still fired, I'd swear a few times, go to the range ASAP to function test it and get over it, he'd be scarred for life. Even that never got teh guy to shut up. I eventually just left. Deep down, I always hoped his Kimber would fall down a nasty storm drain so he'd have to go get it:)
 
I don't shoot at ranges but all my friends hammer me because I only own 1 beretta 9mm and never carry it. Always carry revolvers and soon a S&W 649 357. I always tell them that if I sell mine I can get more than I paid, they will not! I could care less if you don't like revolvers, think their old tech, what ever but I'm 30 and have more respect for a gentleman or lady who carries a wheel gun and can shoot. You can suck and still shoot descent but pick up a revolver and it takes some practice.
