That look of disgust . . .

I once told everyone in the range (inside) I was getting ready to rapid fire a Smith 500 and they all watched in awe...

I got a kick out of that... ;) :D

KUDOS, AND BEST WISHES, HamHands YOU ARE STILL A YOUNG MAN, WITH HOPEFULLY, MANY YEARS OF SHOOTING YET TO COME ..... ENJOY ! ! !

Thank you my brother! I feel like I'm making up for lost time now I tell you though. Every range day centers around 2 vintage "J" frames, a Colt Agent, and now my new love, a 3" 629 .44Special/Mag... I'm breaking in a new holster for it as I type this N frame. The only semi-auto pistols that get shot anymore are my house defense 1911 commander and my CZ P-01 that used to be and sometimes still is my EDC pistol.

The only cajoling I ever got was back when I hunted with a .44 mag and went to the range at least 2x per week to practice. In the 80s.

The club I belonged to was heavily populated with bullseye, small bore rifle silhouette, and "non-hunters" pistol silhouette shooters (those "handguns" you hold like eating a taco.)

My standard reply to the complaints about the report of my mags was "If you don't like loud noises, you picked the wrong sport."

Target shooters can be so snooty.

Re: OP. Lately I've moved into duck tape as a means of both modifying my firearms as well as holding on special features like custom hand crafted apertures that I attach to the rear sights of M-98 Mausers. Always appreciate the compliments and encouragement offered by the cognizant! Sincerely. bruce.
Then you must be using the OD green or black duct tape, not that chintzy silver stuff. It's so last year.

More interest than disgust as far as my revolvers went at the range. Most of the negative comments were about some inexpensive gun I was shooting. I had an Astra A-80 years ago, with the bottom of the grip mag release. It was a great shooting gun, I bought another one after selling the first one, and then later on, an A-100. Anyway, I was shooting the A-80, along with a friend's S&W 59, and my Beretta 92S. An old guy next to us said, "Two good guns and a turkey!". The only one of the three I considered a turkey was the 59, it was unreliable, the other two were great shooters. Later on, I had some comments about my Astra A-75. I'm confused about the bad comments I've read about Astra guns, as I've had 6 of them and they all were great shooters and had decent, if not great, accuracy. The guys commenting about my A-75 stopped crapping on it after I let them shoot it. That little all steel gun has a fantastic DA trigger and a pretty decent SA trigger, and shoots anything I put into it. In feel compared to my other guns, it's like a miniature Sig P220.

I was at a local range on Sunday with my wife and we were shooting our vaquero and model 66 snubs and as soon as I let off some 357 rounds the other 7 lanes apparently stopped what they were doing and came to our lane to what the heck was happening. All that did was encourage me to start launching really stout loads out of the ruger. Lol. We have solid concrete between stations so you can't see other shooters on the line. When they saw the flame show out of the snubs and the middle of the x gone I think they were what I call "plastic emasculated." Lol. Even the owner was laughing when we were done, He has big monitors on the wall out front for each station and said everyone stopped in their tracks and were looking around trying to figure out what the heck was going on. So I had to embellish a bit out front that next time I will have to bring heavy loads instead of the light ones!

So I went to the range Friday and had a great time as usual. (Operative words are: "Great time as usual.")

Guy next to me looks at my two revolvers and screws up his face (that has to hurt on some level) and says,"They make auto pistols now."

I look at this obviously sarcastic, uniformed, and ignorant guy (substitute the word "fool" if you'd like) and I say to him, "I see you've never had the pleasure of owning a revolver. One day, when you get bored of all those autos you might read about and invest in a revolver. You'll get the pleasure of the old times and maybe even a piece of history."

Now, granted, this guy was about 25 years younger than me, and he's still at the stage where he thinks he's cool because he shoots an automatic. Good for him - I hope he's happy.

Has something like this ever happened to you? Did you ever pull on the disdain and disgust of your neighbor in the next position because you were shooting a revolver? I'd really like to know.

Thanks -

Rich

Hell....I used to be THAT GUY...but now I'm older and wiser.

I had a couple of "tacti-cool" guys show up at the range I go to. They set up a 6" steel gong out at about 30 - 35 yards. They came with a boat load of Glocks, CZ's and other semi-autos. They looked over at me and saw my old Model 14 and started gently kidding me about shooting "cowboy" guns, being a dinosaur, etc. It was all in good fun.

When we started shooting they were putting lots of lead down range but I rarely heard the gong ring. One of them finally said to me, "feel free to shoot at our gong if you want."

I picked up my "relic" and hit the gong six times, reloaded and hit it six times more. Then I handed them the revolver and a box of wadcutters and told them to have fun. They were able to hit the gong with regularity. As I was leaving they asked me where the best place to shop for revolvers was.

Most of the comments i've got was shooting .357s and people wanting to know what it was. But I had one guy that was shooting a Ruger snubnose that was really curious, so I let him try out my 28-2 and I think I had him sold on old S&Ws.

The only comments I ever received were positive and they came from the instructor of an advanced handgun class I was taking. He kept saying how much he liked my Model 64-5 which isn't the prettiest around but is a great shooter. During one of the breaks, he opened up his range bag and pulled out one of the nicest looking 4 inch Model 19s that I have seen.

I have a regular practice of ignoring what anybody thinks of anything I may be shooting.
It's the result of paying no attention to them, their guns, or their looks, and there must be something in my face that prevents anybody from verbally expressing scorn about my stuff.
