The best 1917 (I'll ever own), maybe ever?

Now you have gone and done it Jim, you've confused me a touch more.

So, even more sad, is the fact that this was an HBH, but that aside, would you say someone added the checkering all the way to the front of the hammer, around the firing pin area (which it is not on your HBH hammers)?

because there seems to be more checkering on this then on your or my hammers. I'm guessing now that someone chopped off part of the hammer and then re-cut the checkering to extend it, probably for some sort of Fitz Special kind of project?

Yes I'm afraid so. The checkering is diamond cut instead of sq cut and also not of factory quality; a bit uneven towards the rear edge.

SixgunStrumpet, That is simply a magnificent example. Congrats! It is also what I want mine to look like. Minus the Ivory.

Normally, I don't care at all for modified guns. In this instance, I would take that one over a pristine, NIB 1917. Fantastic gun!

So what if they came from Hartford instead of Springfield? Nice guns are nice guns. Congratulations and thanks for sharing.

BTW, does anyone know of a gunsmith/company that is doing the fixed sight upgrades like the one done on the rear sight of the OP gun?

Froggie
