I bought an aimpoint clone from them about 6 months ago. Did not meet my expectations so I returned it. No problems with the return and got my money back including shipping. Great customer service.

At the time I was more satisfied with the Primary Arms red dot. rrages has some newer products available now. I have no experience with these newer ones.

Newbie Dumb Question

Hey guys.....new to the site. First time caller, long time listener.

I have a 15-22 "A1 comp" on order. Hoping it will be here tomorrow or Friday at the latest.

I've been doing research for weeks, mostly on this site enjoying all the pictures of all the options everyone has chosen and trying to decide how I'm going to customize mine.

I have a dumb question about red dot/reflex sights. Hopefully this is the proper place to post the question.

I've seen some guys have iron sights with red dots AND what appears to be a reflex sight mounted between the red dot and the front iron sight. So what gives? What's the purpose of this? I understand using a red dot and leaving the iron sights on for backup and/or co-witnessing, but what's with the reflex in between?

What you are probably talking about is a magnifier. A magnifier is used in conjunction with a red dot or holographic sight to give longer range capability. It is placed in between the rear backup sight and the dot or holo. Hope this helps. If not post a pic of what your are talking about. Then we will be able to tell you for sure.

I think I'm familiar with a magnifier - it goes behind (closer to the shooter) the red-dot. What I saw was between the red dot and the front sight and looked just like a reflex sight. Let me try to find the pic (uh oh.....now I'll be online for hours searching again).

Ok....found it. It's in the M&P 15-22 Picture Thread, page 36, post #354. The gun appears to belong to Chattanooga Phil. Maybe he'll chime in and explain how it works. I'm just curious why/how you would use all three systems. Thanks again.

I have put so much crap on my rifle it is hard to remember.

You're probably referencing the Tasco 30mm red dot or the BSA 40mm red dot, along with the Sightmark Holosight.

The SightMark has a very small dot (1-2Moa), The Tasco and BSA both have large 5MOA.

The SightMark dot fades out in direct sunlight. The Tasco can be used in the brightest of sunlight. The 40mm BSA is so-so in sunlight, but with the larger 40mm tube allows me a more comfortable heads-up position for some shooting. The combinations co-witness fine.

I've slapped a carry handle on now so I have a 4x scope, Holosight, and regular sights available at any time.

well after I mounted my bushnell (for once I didn't snap any pics), I accidentally left it on high power for the next 14 hours. It appeared as bright as it was yesterday. I guess that was a decent test on battery life.

I mounted it to one of my AR15s and it co-witnessed perfectly with my sights. The box says for shotguns, so I think this sight will live up to my rifle rounds without a problem. I think I will be scrapping my Sightmark aimpoint clone for another one of these for my 15-22 if I come across an excellent deal on one. A month or so ago these bushnells sold on amazon for $80. Now they are up to $130-ish.

Once the rain stops falling here, I will go out and snap some pictures through the sight.

I'm assuming you use either the red dot or the reflex, but not both at the same time, right? Perhaps you use the Sightmark for more accurate/darker conditions, and the red dot for brighter conditions and/or quicker target acquisition - due to the larger MOA dot?

Am I understanding this, or am I way off?

Right on all points. I have found the large BSA with 5MOA dot works best for me when shooting at pop cans. I've done more shooting a paper the last couple times out so I'm using the 4x for that.

Holy resurrection! This thread is almost 4 years old!

But no, I wouldn't even consider that dot. It doesn't even list a brand??? If you go that cheap, at least get a BSA but consider that you'll still need a riser so add that to the cost. But if you want to avoid a drawer full of cheap mistakes, move up and do some research on quality budget red dots. There are several available for not much more. This is not one of them.

Still a usefull thread. My 15-22 is for steel matches, Ruger Rimfire Challenge etc. It has a C-more and a Geissele Super Dynamic 3 Gun Trigger.
No co-witness iron sights, no wannabe stuff.
