Just a couple of pictures I took a few days ago:

I've been getting back into photography and haven't been hanging out here as much as I used to, but thought I'd share these

PS - you can spend almost as much $$$ on cameras & lenses as on S&W's!

I didn't take this photo, but it's a favorite. Just amazing detail. Thank god this thing isn't 6-feet long.

I was about 7 or 8 feet away from the hummingbird. He seemed quite content to sit there for several minutes and I approached him very carefully to keep from spooking him.

I dunno, the bird has a "dont start no trouble and there wont be no trouble" look in his eye.

You mighta been about one step away from getting whooped on.

Actually I think I have more tied up in my camera, lenses, and gear than I have in guns.
The really sad part is the camera stuff keeps getting worth less and less

while the guns appreciate.

And I've always wanted to look through this one:

107-inch.jpg

It's the 107 incher at the McDonald Observatory in West Texas. Probably the equivalent of a 16 inch battleship gun, rather than a S&W, though.

$6 million in 1969.

Sabre,
What camera & lenses did you use for these?

Ron,

Both were taken with a Nikon D300. The bird was with a Nikon 70-300VR, the bee with a Nikon 60mm Micro AFS.

You could buy a lot of Smiths for what that puppy is worth.

My piggy bank isn't quite up to the $99,000 they are asking, so feel free to buy it if you want it. B&H is run by orthodox Jews, though, so you'll have to wait until sunset today to order. Passover is still going on.

Bill, I own both of those lenses but I have a D80. I've heard some criticism of the 70/300 but I don't have any problems with mine either.

We need to wait for a few days. It's starting to snow and the news says that it's going to be some significant accumulation - a couple of feet.

Sunday it's supposed to be in the 60's.
