THE DECISION HAS BEEN MADE M&P Bodyguard V. Ruger LCP

Make mine a Smith

Checked out the Ruger LCP and the Smith Body guard . Smith all the way. For "a few dollars more" the Smith has better sights and can re strike primer if mis- fire......:D oh yes i believe 2 mags with it

They answer the question; someone notices (say, their IT department, should they post from work) and notifies their HR department . . .

My point was that there'll be a lot of people out there reading this who'd answer in the affirmative, but from whom you'll never hear.

never thought of that

I'm missing something

How do they compromise themselves by answering my question?

Once you've seen enough folks caught up in situations where something they typed on a work computer was noticed and reported by the IT dept ... and you learn that the security precautions being used include a key-stroke logging feature for everything typed on the key board, and that everything is backed up onto servers so it can be available for review, subpoena, investigations, etc ... some folks learn to be somewhat chary of their non-work related computer activities while at work (even if permitted by employer's policy).

The internet is anonymous mostly by "gentleman's agreement", not if someone looks in your direction.

Then again, after having been casually browsing recent news, it seems that it's possible for some occasional gov agency to not back up even work-related activities and maintain back up data on secure servers.

I carry the BG380 every day, it works for me...

I was already leaning towards the LCP, but stopped down to check them both out. I still chose the LCP, and got the model with the Viridian laser. The BG380 just didn't feel as comfortable in my hands, and I didn't like all the levers on the left side. The LCP was more streamlined and smooth, and that's important to me because I plan to carry it with a clip that slips over my shorts waist band, so it's going to be mostly against my skin and I don't want it snagging my shorts.

Definitely not a knock on the Smith...I have a 9mm Smith and love it.

Let me clarify exactly what I have in mind. I can take my wife's LCP, put it in a DeSantis Gunhide holster, stick it in my back pocket and you'll never know it's there. That's what I'm looking for in terms of concealment.

If there is a 9mm I can do that with I'd be interested but I just don't think there is

The only 9mm close to the size you mention is around $1000.00.
It's the ROHRBAUGH R9s. Is it worth the coin, I'd say yes, but I'd opt for three S&W Bodyguards verses the one.

My vote goes to the LCP (truthfully, neither would be my choice, but the question was limited to either the LCP or the Bodyguard).

Although the new M&P Bodyguard .380 without laser would be my choice of Bodyguards, were I limited to just that model, I do not desire a thumb safety on a DAO pistol with a firing pin safety.

As to the question of back pocket versus front pocket carry, I do not think there is any comparison for me. Front pocket conceals better and does not "print." As to back pocket carry, please read Clint Smith's thoughts on back pocket carry in American Handgunner several issues back when he took issue with his friend Mike Venturino on the subject.

You're not the only one.

I don't know about the newest M&P version of the Bodyguard .380 as (if) approved by LAPD, but the LAPD SKU# for the original BG380 was for a model in which the thumb safety was removed (not installed).

Ruger 380 vs Bodyguard

I had both but the sold the Ruger. Personal preference but I like the Smith better. Its not as hard on your hand firing it. Both are easy to conceal. I also have a shield, that I really like but I don't carry in much in the summer months. Just my opinion!

After looking at our options we ended up buying the 9mm Shield but my wife is going to carry it and I inherited her LCP.

Still might get myself a Shield too though

The Kahr .9mm or .380 are very small and light to carry. If you can
try one. They are well made and reliable. I carry a Kahr 9mm most of the time, and after break-in it has never failed to work!

I concur on the Kahr P380; very small, very concealable, accurate, and reliable.

I carry mine in a Bear Creek leather IWB holster and it practically disappears underneath a t-shirt.

I went back to revolvers. It is easier for us disabled people than to rack them slides when we cannot do it anymore. I went back to .38's and .45 revolvers non +p ammo 148 on up to 158 grain wad or semi wadcutter for the.38 and .45

Ever try racking the slide by resting the rear sight on something fixed, and "punching" your hand forward? It works well on countertops, railings, etc. For limber folks like myself, it works well on my boot or shoe sole.

Revolvers are good though, don't get me wrong!

Just for picture reference, here's my new LCP with Viridian green laser....
