Despite the lack of both a manual safety and a hold open device, the Frommer Stop was adopted for issue by the Hungarian military and found some favor in the civilian market as well. I believe my example (pictured below) is most likely representative of the latter category.

An excellent article on this pistol and its designer can be found here: The Hungarian Frommer Stop self-loading pistol - Armament Research Services (ARES)

Amazing how many pistols Ive never heard of. It looks very robust and does have a grip safety which according to the article blocks the trigger bar if not grasped. Only some misc parts available on GB..so must be rare as hens teeth.

Frommer Stops appear at estate auctions occasionally. I would like to snag one because I have a thing for pistols with weird operating systems. Sadly, they usually attract buyers with fatter wallets than me.

Here's a video of a Frommer Stop showing it's unique operation.

Yes, a long recoil/rotating bolt action in 32 ACP-? Chambered in 9MMP it might have made some sense.

There have been other .32 ACP pistols using operating systems other than simple blowback. The Savage pistols used a rotating barrel delayed blowback, the Remington 51 used an inertia lockup, and the early Davis-Warner and several others used a blow forward principle.

I have read to shoot mild ammo in the frommer.
I've read precisely the opposite, that a hotter load was what it was designed to handle, and is preferred to reliably operate the long recoil action (as opposed to the more common simple blowback .32 pistols)

Maybe so, i dont know.
Most i read on gunboards that have them dont shoot em.
Thats why i never bought one.
But i have no first hand experience.
Thanks
Mike

I got one of these at a police supply shop in Jan. It came from Kitty Hawk NC PD. I paid $20 for it. I knew what it was and they sold it as parts. It is fully functional . They are great little guns.
