No point in trying to add anything to that.

Naw, that's just from this morning. Picked and canned most of the tomatoes last week and the week before. Now, just a few coming in but a lot of peppers. Time for salsa. . . :)

Bullseye,
how close are you to Maggie Valley? I just love the Blue Ridge Parkway!

North Carolina, near Cherokee and the Smokey Mountains entrance, and start of Blue Ridge Parkway entrance.

We have driven the entire length of the Parkway a couple times.

Man, oh man. I'm getting excited again.

Vacation comes in less than 3 months now, and I'm picturing all the fun I'll be having in the BR mountains then.

Hoping for some early December snow. :)

Red,

I'm in Virginia, near where Floyd and Patrick counties meet where the BRP crosses Virginia Route 8. Here's some photos from last fall to further encourage y'all to come on up for a visit and a slice of homemade coconut creme pie at Tuggles' Gap Restaurant. We'll send y'all home with a quart of homemade apple butter.

If Tuggles' Gap Restaurant is on the Parkway, we ate there. We had breakfast with real salty ham, it was good. I can't exactly remember where, is it near Mabry's Mill. Just a beautiful place for pictures.

The Shenandoah valley is just breathtaking. I always think about Stonewall Jackson's battles (with his 'foot' cavalry) in that area.

It is, and you did. The real salty ham is what we call "country ham"--old-fashioned salt cure that just melts on your tongue. Next time ask for a bowl of the homemade 'mater soup, and a slice of the homemade pie.

J.E.B. Stuart's and Jubal Early's homes are in the area.

The last time I saw Mabry Mill was 1976. I guess it made an impression on me. The Blue Ridge IS God's country.

My wife and I were on the BRP in October last year. We traveled from Stanardsville down to Lynchburg, stopping at various places along the way, and we just loved it. I had never been there before, and the country is so different from the Rocky Mountains we grew up in. I had always thought you just couldn't beat the Rockies in October, but the Blue Ridge just might give them a run for the money. We'll be back there again.

Was just over your way

I was just over your way last weekend checking out the Hillsville Flea Market and Gun Show. Had a great day with my Brother-In-Law there checking out all the treasures. We drove back through Floyd and loved the beautiful views of the rolling hills!

Great thread. Brings back a lotta memories of when I lived in Va as a kid, and we'd take family vacations along the Blue Ridge. Skyline Drive, right? We were doin' that back in, oh, 1965 or so...

The Blue Ridge Mountains are connected to the Smokey Mountains, right? Guess it is all Appalachia mountains? I recall the Smokeys in Tennesee, too, and how the winding roads banked dramatically in Tennessee, much more so than in Virginia, going around curves.

Beautiful country. Someday, I'll go back...

I live in charlotte and cant wait to visit the blue ridge again. the colors just take your breath away!

My wife and myself wish that we were there with you.:D
Some of our favorite memories of the past 42 years have been in the Blue Ridge Mtns of NE Ga and West NC.

Yes, I believe its one in the same.

It is always cool to match an actual place with a memory. My Mother was born in Juliette Ga. That's where 'Fried Green Tomatos' was filmed. The country store/restaurant is the same one in the film. Mom used to go to that place to eat lunch sometimes. It was cool to go where she had walked when she was little.

I vacationed last summer in the Asheville area. Visited Hendersonville, Maggie Valley, Cherokee, Bryson City and a few others. Did a tour of the Smokies, and the Nat'l Park.
I could see myself living there someday.:)

Stayed in a cabin in Maggie Valley in July 06. We especially liked the drive to and fro from our cabin. The little roads are so cool, rabbits would run in front of the van. Everything was like a postcard!

We've got a place not too awful far from Blue Ridge, GA, and the wife and I are going to enjoy the early winter. Hoping to get up into the Great Smoky Mountains to see some winter waterfalls, too.

There are some nice ones right near Gatlinburg. Big ones you can walk behind. I took some pictures from behind the falls. Walks last a couple hours, up and down, but beautiful when you get there. If an old fat man like me can do it, you can.

There are many near Maggie Valley NC.
