"No animals were harmed during the making of this film".
It's not dead, it took months to get that bird to do that!![]()
And you can bet there won't be any shots of the back of Depp's head.

I've got this to say about that. The halting english the original Tonto spoke in is considered an insult to the Native community. However, Jay Silverheels is considered one of the greatest Native actors ever. He potrayal of Tonto was done with grace and intelligence, when it could have been done in a stereotypical, insulting way. A very memorable character. I'm personally not too crazy about Depps makeup and that silly looking bird on his head but his portrayal of Tonto is supposedly more accurate of the Comanche of the time.
Personally, I like the original series and I know I'll be comparing the two.
There is a local retro type TV station here that ran the old Lone Ranger series. The very earliest ones were made in 1949. The Lone Ranger was played by William Hart who sounded much like the Dudley Do-Rite cartoon character. Moore showed up about a year later.
I guess I shoulda said an insult to some in the Native community. I found no insult either and enjoy watching Native actors and watching comical portrayals. The one that came to my mind was the Hekawi tribe on Ftroop and big chief Ugh Amug Ugh on a Popeye cartoon. I thought they were hilarious.Ill be looking forward to reading your take on it. Im half Cherokee Indian myself--and I found no insults in the way Jay Silverheels portrayed Tonto. Also, I found no insult in the way that Chief Dan George-or even Chief Thundercloud--portrayed their characters in: The Outlaw Josey Wales as well as Ambush--with Robert Taylor. There are many other examples but I cant think of the Actors names just now ;-))
Chief Dan George I thought did an excellent job-same as Chief Thundercloud--in the few Westerns I saw him in.
IF one is to be insulted at portrayals of Indians? one would have to get angry with Anthony Quinn for the way he portrayed Chief Crazy horse in: They Died With Their Boots On w/ Errol Flynn. I love the movie even if it is comical. Also, there is that "thing" that people have where John Wayne pulled the pin of a Grenade with his teeth in some war movie--when in fact--he never did. However, Anthony Quinn did that at least twice in the movies: Back To Bataan and The Guns of Navarone.
Sorry about going off topic a bit but just saying
PS, I am a big fan of Anthony Quinn. Another who was as I thought--great as an Indian--was Italian Actor: Anthony Caruso.
There was also Italian American Espera Oscar de Corti who was better known as Iron Eyes Cody.
Pity, that. IMO, all of the main characters were better portrayed in the newer version.Have no intentions of seeing it, just as I refuse to see the "new" version of Rooster Cogburn with Jeff Bridges.![]()

YMMV, though.
On one hand, its a western and I wish they made a lot more of them, especially after the hilariously awful Cowboys and Aliens. On the other hand, after seeing the trailer of The Lone Ranger jumping a horse from a rooftop onto a moving train? Well, I know we are supposed to say its only a movie, but apparently I am supposed to believe the laws of physics are only guidelines here. If I want fantasy, I'll go see a science fiction movie. When I watch westerns, I want realism for the most part or at least the characters not to fly through the air when shot, or do things that are not physically possible.
Anyone would have been better than Glen Campbell in the original. Marcel Marceau would have been better than Glen Campbell.
From the clips I saw, Bridges was wonderful in the role; but Bridges is an actor who plays characters, not one who plays himself in every flick.
Boy, am I going to get flamed for that one!![]()
John Wayne was good...at playing John Wayne.
In the early 70's Clayton Moore lived in Golden Valley, MN. I worked for a utility company and had a service call at his house.
I remember a friendly guy and when I was leaving, he did "HI HO, Silver" for me in the Lone Rangers voice. But, shucks, I got no silver bullet.
Maybe so..but they're both dead.
If you want to see Jeff Bridges in a movie I think he will be great in? I think it is called: R.I.P.D. Ive seen a trailer for it once but from what I saw--looks like it will be one I can enjoy at the theaters as well ;-)
He wasn't half bad in "The Big Lebowski", "Tucker" or "Crazy Heart" (for which he got his sixth Oscar nomination and in which he sang damned well), among many others.
Fine actor.
