The Most Famous Person You've Met

I guess Adolph Galland. Met him at a book signing in Salt Lake City, many years ago. To be such a Billy Badass as a fighter pilot, he was a grandfatherly old gentlemen. Looked like a gentleman scholar.

I shook his hand....and I've seen a picture of him shaking hands with Hitler. That makes a connection. I've shook the hand that shook Hitler's hand.

I guess that and about a dollar will get you a cup of coffee almost anywhere?

I've not met too many famous people, but I think I have a couple of different ones.

When I was a kid I met Mickey Rooney and Malcolm X (not at the same time though!)

As an adult I met Paul Newman at the Lime Rock racetrack. I've also met Donald Trump and designer Donna Karan (of DKNY clothing fame) at a financial services company I was working at.

My (then) pre-teen son won a contest once with Radio Disney. Grand prize included lunch with Will Smith and his wife Jada at Spago's in LA. We met in a private room but were visited by several "celebs" as we ate ( all 5 courses ;-) . I've never been too big/impressed by the Hollyword scene but have to admit that Will and Jada were just regular people who happened to be famous.

Elvira*, but she spent more time talking to my wife then she did me.

I met Howard Keel while stationed in Germany. The Army rented our unit to his film co. To make the movie 'Armored Command'.

They re-marked our tanks with black cross's, and we were Germans.

Howard Keel, was a loud-foul mouthed POS. He was supposed to be a Col. in the movie. He liked to walk around the area wearing his movie uniform and getting saluted. He also loved to brag to any troops he talked to about his sexual conquests.

*A very pleasent woman who seemed tired but not 'uppity' at all.

I guess I met a ton of "famous" people, but not too many important ones.

I was using the urinal next to Art Linkletter in the men's room at the Denver airport many years ago.

I did not ask to shake his hand.

Portland (Or) Professional wrestlers

Tough Tony Borne and Lonnie Mayne used my high school football locker for a Portland Wrestling match at Toledo High School in 1970. I had Lonnie Mayne's cigar butt in my locker all year.

I also served food to Henry Fonda, Lee Remmick, Michael Sarazan, and Paul Newman at the Restaurant I was busboying at in Newport, Oregon. They had a cast party for "Sometimes a great Notion". A loggin movie of dubious distinction.

AL Deputy

I met Ernie Shavers recently. He is dating one of the guys that I work with's mother. He is still in excellent shape after all these years. I understand that he still works out and wears out a bodybag every 2-3 months. Ali called him the "Acorn". He was a heck of a fighter.

When I was a callow youth of 17 in 1956, my high school closed for the traditional Rodeo Day. This was the day of the annual Phoenix rodeo parade. I went downtown, and sought some shade in a parking garage right next to the grandstands opposite the reviewing stand on Central Avenue. Pretty soon a movie crew arrived, and began setting up cameras focused on the grandstand next to where I was. I soon found out why. A big black limo pulled up in the garage, right in front of me. I could see there was a blonde in the car, and after a few moments, she emerged. She was none other than Marilyn Monroe! She gave me a big smile and I shook her hand! Moments later she went to take the scene in "Bus Stop" where her cowboy boyfriend lifts her up on his shoulders in the grandstand to better see the parade. Her image is indelibly etched in my mind to this day. She was wearing the exact same outfit you see in this photo; it was taken on the same day I met her:

While in the Navy in 1952-55, in Patrol Squadron 6,flew for a while as a crew member in a crew with Lt.JG Scott Carpenter. For those youngsters who may not remember back that far, he was one of the original Astronauts. Also back when he was running for the nomination, met and had a picture taken with George H.W.Bush. (Bush 41)

Bobby and Ethel Kennedy. Wife and I had breakfast with them in a family style restaurant on Nantuckett, many years ago of course.

I've met rburg!

Way back in 1977 I sat directly behind Mackenzie Phillips at an Eagles concert at the Los Angeles Forum. The Eagles were fantastic. It was the opening night on their Hotel California tour and the first concert with Joe Walsh.

Then in 1978 I spent the whole weekend with Bruce Jenner at the Motorcycle Olympiad held at Saddleback Park and Carlsbad Raceway. I was 16 years old and my neighbor was a big wig at Yamaha who got me in and introduced me to Bruce. He was a cool guy and very famous at the time.
