Local girl makes good again--Jennifer Lawrence, a native of my adopted city, has her third nomination at age 23. This one's for supporting actress in "American Hustle"--she won best actress for "Silver Linings Playbook", and at 20 was nominated for "Winter's Bone".
I haven't seen anything but trailers and mini-clips of her work. Need to remedy that.

I have a few academy screeners and just saw "Captain Philips." I thought Tom did a great job. At first, I was a little worried they were going to portray the pirates as poor victims since the first scene shows them being force into a boat by their leader...but by the end, you really cheer when the SEALS get their hat trick. Tonight is "American Hustle"...looking forward to that.

I consider not having seen any of those movies to be a badge of honor. Oh, and an indication of my age & politics.

It's a particularly excellent crop of first rate pictures that were nominated. Ditto the actors/actresses.
Just for sentimental reasons I would like to see Bruce Dern take best actor Oscar. Otherwise it's got to be Christian Bale from "American Hustle."

Only one I saw all year was Rush. Didn't make the cut, but I liked it.
I think the last time my wife and I were in a theater was about three years ago... and I can't even remember what we saw.
My son, however, is a movie nut. I just use him as a "screener". When he sees a movie he liked, I'll just wait till it comes out on DVD and watch it then.

Not for Best Picture. It, and The Croods which I've seen also, made the list for best animated picture.
I bet y'all can't guess how old my kids are!

Not only had I not seen any, I've only heard of two of them!
