The pandemic and your job

Fed Gov attorney. Been on WFH since mid-march. Don't expect that to change any time in the near/mid future. I can do my job from anywhere (provided I can access VPN) as it's mostly receiving emails with requests to review/clear documents, marking them up, and sending them back. I would be thrilled to continue WFH forever.

Wife runs fundraising consulting business from home. Been booming, even added a handful more subcontractors in last few months. She's basically become a crisis counselor as her clients' (mostly social-service non-profits) funding sources dry up. Lots of stress, but in the words of Billie Jean King (on the occasion of the US Open), pressure is a privilege.

We are very fortunate and try not to forget it through all the daily gripes about online schooling and canceled plans.

I work in the Philippines and am unable to return from the states until the Kung Flu is under control. Just working from WA by email and Zoom. It's kinda nice being in the states for the summer, avoiding the rainy season. I'll hopefully get back there in January.

Self employed attorney in a rural area with no public defender so everything is handled through appointing private counsel. As Caj noted, the bondsmen have been hit hard. I tried my last jury trial in January. Have guys that have been sitting in jail since last October (mainly ICE holds or major felony crimes). Almost all hearings are done via Zoom so my mileage reimbursement which used to run around $200 a week has been zero. On the other hand, not wasting so much windshield time allowed me to focus in more on my civil practice. My partner mainly does divorces and has as many as she can handle. My estate planning practice has gone through the roof as well. It might not be our best year but it will be pretty close by December 31.
