The Russians have gone in

Sure keeps evidence of torture and execution to a minimum. As a bonus, you can cook your own KIA and save paying the family for the battle death.

The Russian people will know, "what ever happened to little Sasha, have not seen him since he was drafted?"

Germany is the major holdout and
says it'll halve energy purchases
from Russia by mid summer. The
Germans fear for their economy.

Allied, meaning NATO, nations. will
find alternatives to Russian energy
sooner than you might believe. Do
not doubt plans are in the works.

As well as the German economy, it's not quite warm enough in Northern Europe to turn off the Russian gas just yet. Worse, Germany is killing all its nuclear plants, so it remains to be seen where their Watts will come from in the future.

I had breakfast yesterday with some German friends, who live in Traben-Trarbach. They're empty-nesters, with spare rooms, and they've taken in a Ukrainian refugee mother and her two little girls. They described how while they were making breakfast one morning, a helicopter flew near their home. Upon hearing it, the seven year-old looked up in horror, and ran down the basement steps... :(

There's a special place in hell for people who terrorize children...

Seeing Bucha atrocities is turning point for media, viewers | AP News

I'm on vacation in Europe right now, and spent the last five days in Germany. Both the citizens and the government are becoming increasingly outraged over Russia's brutality, and there are various proposals being floated on how Germany can safely stop buying Russian gas. They really would like to do so, but it's not a simple or easy process.

"Ukraine could 'absolutely' win the war against Russia, Pentagon says."

Perhaps the way Russia is currently conducting their attack. But Russia could wipe Ukraine off the face of the earth if Putin wanted to. That's my main concern - that they decide to use chemical, biological, or nuclear weapons. Because of his unprovoked attack, Putin is already despised by all except a few of his allies, so I'm worried he may feel "What do I have to lose?".

And now this "crazy man" is negotiating our nuclear deal with Iran. Can't make this up.

Looks like there's agreement.

Rep. Josh Gottheimer (D-N.J.) said in a statement that he was concerned about the U.S. lifting the foreign terrorist organization designation against Iran's Revolutionary Guard Corps, which was placed on the list in 2019. He also raised concerns that the deal would allow Russia to continue doing energy business with Iran

"Are we seriously going to let war criminal, Vladimir Putin, be the guarantor of the deal"
he said. "We must address the threat of a nuclear-armed Iran, stand strong against terrorists, and protect American values and our allies."

Russia is a signatory to the JCPOA. You can't keep them out.

The Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) is a detailed, 159-page agreement with five annexes reached by Iran and the P5+1 (China, France, Germany, Russia, the United Kingdom, and the United States) on July 14, 2015.

Germany intercepts Russian conversations on indiscriminate killings in Ukraine

Article here (originally from WaPo)

Findings from the foreign intelligence service could further undermine claims by Russia that atrocities were carried out after its soldiers left

"...In two separate communications, Russian soldiers described how they question soldiers as well as civilians and then proceed to shoot them, according to an intelligence official familiar with the findings who, like others, spoke on the condition of anonymity because of the matter's sensitivity.

The findings, first reported by the German magazine Der Spiegel and confirmed by three people briefed on the information, further undermine claims by Russia that atrocities are being carried out only after its soldiers leave occupied areas...."

I seem to remember that back during the Vietnam War that some humongous stashes of North Vietnamese guns and ammo were found. What happens to a big stash like that? Is there a big stash that the DOD or CIA keeps around to supply when they want to conceal the origin of weapons?
Yes. I won't say more.

Must be cold in Europe

EU to ban Russian coal imports from August, sources say

"The region is heavily reliant on Russia's oil and natural gas, although it is less dependent on coal imports — a key reason why this is the first energy sanction the European Commission has proposed."

Halfstepping much?

Consider what cutting off the minimal amount of Russian oil has done to gas and heating oil prices here, then think what turning off the taps would do in countries that are up to 40% dependent on Russian energy. Yes, they put themselves in that hole, but don't expect them to destroy their economies at the drop of hat.

Do note that none of our 'friends' in the Middle East have offered to ramp up production to bring down prices.

South Pars/North Dome Field
Discovered in 1971, the South Pars natural gas field is the largest deposit of natural gas ever discovered. Estimations from the International Energy Agency (IEA) hold that South Pars alone has as many recoverable reserves as all known gas fields put together. The field has a capacity of about 1,800 trillion cubic feet of gas and condensates of about 50 billion barrels. South Pars is the name given to the Iranian part of the gas field whose area is about 1,400 square miles under Iran's territorial waters. North Dome is 2,300 square miles in size located in Qatari territorial waters.

Yes, but this isn't Eastern Germany in 1945. Stalin promised them a fun time when they got there. This is going viral everyday. I can not see why putin is letting them do this. He will never be able to get out of this horror.

From his point of view, he isn't in any horror, it's just what Ukrainians deserve. Remember, his mind is made up.

A colleague who was training Ukrainian patrol police until our Embassy put non-essential personnel on ordered departure keeps in contact with his students. They've mostly been rolled into Territorial Defence forces; they call T-90MS tanks 'conscript cookers.' Javelins and NLAWs are great, and radar-targeted artillery is even better!
