The Russians have gone in

I heard on the news that the rocket hit a section at the plant that was under construction...........no "go go juice" yet.

Just a fire..... which in a way is good news but a very stupid move by the Russians, in my book.

The news also stated the the wind is blowing to the direction of Russia............ HELLOW !!

That is one way to stop this war !!

Have been listening to the news this morning. Seems that Putin is finding effective ways of circumventing all those banking and economic sanctions imposed on Russia by using crypto and also handling all international banking transactions by using China as an intermediate, as General Secretary Xi is only too happy to help his buddy. It also seems possible that Russia may just simply default on all of its huge national debt. Then what? Global financial chaos which could be worse than nuclear war.

This all sounds too easy. But it's important to remember that this isn't the Soviet Union anymore. Russia is running a basically capitalist economy; there is no country-wide Communist party organization that can for better or worse organize and discipline the population and steer economic activity. People's money matters, just like Apple products matter.

Putin's popularity is partly based on a sort of populist patriotism, but a fundamental factor in his success with the Russians has been relative economic stability and well-being for the average Russian, after a decade of chaos, deprivation, and corruption during the post-Communist Yeltsin years (that's a bit unfair to Boris, but that's how his rule is largely remembered).

So yes, Putin can put the Russian economy on a war footing and keep the country going with evasive action and alternatives. But the impact on average Russians who are used to a modern standard of living would still be profound. And that could achive what internet information likely can't: Initiate the kind of widespread unrest that dictators fear most. And keep in mind many Russians aren't even officially aware they're at war yet.

It's not complicated. Putin is a criminal thug...having robbed the Russian people, now he will kill them.

Putin is only a few months older than I am. We both grew up in the Cold War era. In Putin's case, being a product of the old Soviet Union and their way of indoctrinating and educating citizens, he has a very different view of the world than those of us who were born and raised in the West. And -- apparently -- Putin's viewpoint, and his attitudes, have never changed.

In Putin's world, the State is everything, and every citizen's first duty is to the State. A citizen's value is measured and determined only by what he can do to serve the State. Nothing is allowed that goes against the interests of the State...and anything that is deemed to be in the best interests of the State is permitted.

That philosophy by itself is something most of us struggle to understand. Living in a nation where individual rights are paramount, and having a Constitution that limits the power and authority of the government, we Yanks in particular, and Westerners in general, just don't "get it". But it guides Putin's every move.

Add to his totalitarian basic mindset the fact that Putin is a sociopath and a thug, and we have what is going on now in Ukraine... :(

A Quebec diner who claims to have invented poutine has changed the name on its menu as it sounds too much like Putin. It is now "Fries-Cheese-Gravy".

That'll push him over the edge.

Yup. "There's no disputin' this slight to Putin"

From a CTV article.

In 2003, there were Freedom Fries. In 2022, in the wake of Russia's invasion of Ukraine, at least one Quebec restaurant has come up with its own way of denouncing Vladimir Putin -- though cutting his name out of the local lexicon is much harder than it seems.

The diner Le Roy Jucep, in the small city of Drummondville, announced on Facebook on Friday that it was calling itself "the inventor of the fries-cheese-gravy."

The dish is, of course, poutine, Quebec's most famous comfort food, and Le Roy Jucep claims to have invented it in the 1950s....

...But that word also happens to be the French translation for Putin's name. Invariably, in France, Quebec and other French-speaking places, the Russian president is written as "Vladimir Poutine."

... On Saturday, the restaurant's staff wrote an update, saying they'd learned of a message of thanks given by a Ukrainian, speaking on Radio-Canada television, who had learned of the gesture.

"Very touching to learn that our tiny message of support has been sent from Drummondville all the way to Ukraine!" the restaurant wrote....

Sometimes a small gesture is all it takes :)

I call him by a Spanish variation of his name, which is probably against the rules to post here.

So sad the "media" refer to him as "President". He's a murdering commie dictator. But he has a nice smile. Like a cobra.
