I heard today that the leaders of three NATO nations are now en route to Kyiv to stand with Zelensky and the thousands of Ukrainians that are still there in the midst of constant Russian bombardments.

That's a needed show of support and a real show of bravery. If the Russians kill or injure any of them, there will be absolute hell to pay.

This war is a continuous revelation. Basically, the dreaded Russian army, supposedly modernized and strengthened under Putin, is showing itself to be a failure at all levels. Who is in charge there? Given the way things are going, you wouldn't expect a Colin Powell and Norman Schwarzkopf-style performance for the world audience, but has anybody even seen any visible Russian military leadership? Do they have any?

That starts with tactical basics like infantry screens and air cover, and an apparent inability to integrate forces in any useful way. Instead of using artillery to prep and cover advances, they're randomly bombarding civilian areas. Anybody who's watched some WW II movies could do better.

It extends at the opposite end to an extremely confused strategic big picture, apparently lacking any kind of "Schwerpunkt" (Clausewitz' "center of focus" toward which the main force needs to be concentrated).

And a general piecemeal army can be taken on by the Ukrainians and disassembled piecemeal.
