The Russians have gone in

Check out the video in this BBC piece. Not only does it show what oldbrownhat has put in his last post, but how the Russians took a pounding in that whole area.

War in Ukraine: Street in Bucha found strewn with dead bodies - BBC News
I hadn't watched that video. Simply appalling.....

These were from early in the invasion... Falaise Gap, but (thankfully) without horses :(

Not to mention the Russian soldiers tied up and shot by the locals before the Ukrainian military got there.

Nuclear war, perhaps it needs
to be faced and not danced
around.

Just watched interviews with
former Russian and Baltic state
leaders. They pointed out that
in the Soviet era, nuclear
weapons were thought of as
DETERRENTS, defensive
weapons.

Now Putin is threatening their
use as offensive weapons,
give-me-what-I-want-or-else
demands.

If he gets away with it over
Ukraine, then what's to stop
him from using the threat
of nuclear attack over and over
again? The Baltic states?
Poland?

Putin is telling NATO don't you
dare try to stop me.

And a good Sunday morning to
you all. :(

More bodies found outside Kyiv

Ukrainian investigators find more than 400 bodies in towns near Kyiv
Reuters reports that Ukrainian prosecutors investigating possible war crimes by Russia have found 410 bodies in towns near Kyiv.

Prosecutor General Iryna Venedyktova said 140 of them had been examined via a televised appearance on Sunday.

Russia has denied allegations that its forces killed civilians in the town of Bucha near Kyiv.

I think we are looking at the end of heavy armor as we know it.
Boots on the ground will also give way to increased air power and long range smart weapons.

You are giving me a mental image of drone fire fights conducted by men who are a hundred miles away from the action. Maybe the new generation that embrace video games are on to something.

Each new war is a game changer. The Falklands War was the first missile war. Look how things have changed in these 40 years.

Sort of like firearms making armored knights obsolete during the Middle Ages. I have wondered how tanks have lasted so long given the expanding inventory of efficient and effective anti-tank weapons.

The first carrier we lose to a single hypersonic missile will likely end the carrier period from 1942 to that awful date.

Dunno. The Chinese opted to build islands from reefs in the South China/West Philippine Sea, inside the '9 dash line' because militarized new islands are cheaper, easier to use, and harder to destroy than carriers. They have only 2 medium carriers and aren't particularly adept with them.

I don't know what types of defensive weaponry carriers have, aside from fighters and escort ships, but I hope it is very good. A hypersonic missile could very easily doom a carrier. Or any other surface ship for that matter.
