The sigma's reputation!

Fairly new to the gun "hobby" and have only had my Sigma 9mm for about a year. I feel it is a good, reliable gun with no problems but was wondering about its reputation. Was this one of those guns with a lot of bugs when it was first introduced?

About three years ago I bought two of the Allied Forces 9VE's when Bud's ran them on sale for $299, one for me and one for my son. I ended up selling one of them when I bought my M&P 9 and 45 compacts, and I gave him mine (already broken in) when he qualified for his carry permit and it was his pick from several that I had. I have nothing but good things to say about them. They are deadly accurate and reliable. The heavy trigger never bothered me at all. I did remove the pigtail spring from the rear of the slide, which reduced the pull by maybe a pound or two.

I would recommend them to anyone looking for an inexpensive starter CCW.

I don't own one, but having shot the 9mm during my stint as a salesman, first hand experience coupled with the low price tag made it no problem moving them.
And if anything did give you trouble, could always be sent back for repairs.
Nothing wrong with an economic fun-gun.

I flat out did not care for the older Sigma. I had one of the light gray frames with stainless slides. The ergonomics are what drew me in. The original trigger is what drove me away. I listened to all the talk of the new models and finally bought a new one.

WOW

It's like a whole different gun now. The feel isn't quite the same but it's not a bad difference. It's slightly smaller (I think, I can't swear to it) and I feel like the it fits my hand as well with better grip since my first was smooth and this one has molded checkering. I like the difference and this one is here to stay.

hey Bulletproof what kind of grip do you have on that Sigma? i've been trying to decide what kind of grip to get for mine and that one looks like it fits very well

Here's my SW40VE.I got it back in March this year for $299 plus tax.The trigger issue is not as bad as the "bashers" say it is.I own several Rugers,Colts, and S&Ws,but guess which one stays next to my bed?

As a new comer Im finding that as I was looking for reviews on the internet many people have "re-evaluated" them over last few years and liked them. Plus many that said they were junk changed their mind after testing them.

I also wonder if some of this does not come from the gunshops though either. Ive been to my main shop and a couple of others and when I ask to see a Sigma Im "pushed" on the M$P or atleast the SD saying "You dont want THAT...THIS is what you need" With that said is there a higher profit margin on the other models or something; or could that just be the view of the person behind the counter..push something THEY feel is better or is this a motivation to make more money by selling a MORE expensive gun. These are from S&W dealers!

What are your guys takes on this. I mean the dealers aren't helping any on the portrayal of the sigma's I only found this out for myself by finding I like the feel and doing all my homework on the gun.

When I bought my Sigma I was actually intending to buy a Glock. As the gun salesman was getting one for me to look at I saw thier flyer on the counter. It had the Sigma on the front page advertised for $299.I asked him to let me see one.He says,"you don't want that cheap ***...this Glock was made just for you"! Well, guess what I bought.....i'm guessing he works on comission and was very rude to me after my decision.

Not much difference in philosophy between your Local Gun Shop and your Local Automobile Dealer... for example, you walk in thinking Focus, but they hope to put you into a Fusion or a Taurus... nothing 'wrong' with any of those cars, just as there is nothing 'wrong' with a Sigma, SD or M&P. It depends on what fits you, what you like, and how persuasive the sales person is.

Oh, and I think it was Henry Ford II who explained why Ford made big cars; "Little car, little profits. Big car, big profits. Next question?"

My sigma has several hundred rounds through it. Trigger is well broken in so it's butter smooth (I have to admit, I did remove the pigtail.) I love that pistol. I just took my son shooting for the first time and he shot my Sigma. We had a blast...it has yet to fail in any way....and I can split a fly's wig with it. Isn't that all that really counts. Smith and Wesson, thank you for a budget priced, well made firearm.
