It is the Time of year, Hunting season is about to start.
So yesterday I did THE TRANSITION. I went from a 1911 as my primary to a S&W Mountain Gun in 44 Mag...
I live in the country so I carry a handgun 100% of the time.
A LWCommander in 45 ACP and 3 extra magazines is effortless to carry around my place and on short trips to town.
A 1911 in 45 ACP or a S&W 44 Mag have been my Primaries for most all of my life, except for my last few years on the job, wher I had to carry a 9mm, I chose the Glock 17. I carried 2 of them EVERY DAY and they served me well, even though they were 9mm...
However, when I retired , the DAY I retired, I went back to the 1911 in 45 ACP. A couple of years in to retirement I was spending a bunch of time at my deer/pig lease and at a buddies cabin in Idaho, so I started carrying my 44 Mag 4" S&W as a Primary. If fact for a little over 2 years I carried it 100% of the time.
After a year at my place in the country, I went back to my LWCommander.
I even carried some sort of 1911 in 45 ACP while deer and pig hunting...
However, for this year I am going back to the 44 Mag for my hunting trips.
So I got out my 44 Mag Mountain Gun for daily carry to "get used to it" before the hunting season.
I also put on a Speed Loader carrier, a 6 round loop carrier and a speed loader in my pocket. I do believe in having a lot of extra ammo on my person.
I prefer a revolver in the "field".
Yes the 1911 and extra magazines are lighter, more compact than a 44 Mag revolver.
But since I was used to carrying a bunch of "stuff" when I was on the job I an not bothered by the extra weight.
