The ultimate Model 19/66 Combat Magnum thread

That’s also the product code the 55 Mag-Na-Port 3” 19-7’s made in 1995 had.

Then there’s the matte blue 2.5” Model 19-5’s made for the Connecticut State Police in 1998 that fall in the AYY1xxx range. Even though they are almost identical to the 19-5’s made for DSS, they do have their own product code of 100728.

There are also matte blue DSS guns in the AYY range but they were RB models with a 4” barrel.

The ‘first’ ones were made for the U.S. Dept of State and have an AN prefix.
The interesting part is that they appear in the ANN8xxx’s, ANP0xxx’s, ANP5xxx’s, and also the ANR8xxx’s.
How many the order was for and/or how many orders were made confuses me because although some of the ANN8xxx range shipped in Dec, 1986; ANP07xx and ANP55xx shipped in Oct, 1986, with ANR8xxx shipping in the beginning of 1987.

Interesting to me is that a lot of S&W’s product codes for different models start at xxxxx2. Maybe they did that to leave room for **Special** orders.
Although I have not come across many of the DSS Model 19-5’s with their boxes, the ones I have seen all had the product code 100701.

Hi snw19_357,

Well, right about when I thought I would be done trying to find another revolver, you have to go and show me this beauty! I really have a thing for the matt finished S&W revolvers. I did not know this particular model even existed...but now I guess I will have to be on a quest for one of these. I sold quite a few revolvers over the years which I really regret. But I will not be doing that again. I have only two S&W's now...a beautiful 66-1[-2] 2.5" (which has a great history) and an SDA series K-Comp...but now you have got me started again...the other half is gonna get very upset!!!!!

Thanks for showing these really neat 'specials'....

Take Care,

JJ

Well, I finally got some pics of my 19-3 with my cell phone, so it's time to post. The combat grips actually came on my nickel Model 13-3, but they look ok on this one while the 13 wears some boot style. I'm really wanting some smooth Magna factory stocks with a Tyler t grip, but the stocks and t grip both seem to be hard to come by. I know it's not a Combat Magnum, nor P&R, but I just HAD to post the 13-3 as well. :)

I came across a 19-3, K9443xx, 4" blue with target grips only, no white outlines or inserts either. I kinda liked it so I'm takin' it home! I'll be adding pics later this week. My 19 needs to get cleaned up a bit to be seen with this esteemed group!

Those ugly Pachmayr Compac Presentaion Pro's are my all time Favorite K/L Framed RB Grips...Great 3 Incher too.....Please remember that when you replace them....Zebulon

I'm back with another:

Traded it off an FBI buddy who bought it new in 1978 and shot a possible with it. The grip adapter came from the little shop at the FBI Academy that used to sell them by the hundreds when new classes went through and were issued Model 10s and then Model 13s. He had it Magna-ported and did a first-rate action job on it himself. It a keeper.

No-dash Model 66, the PC magnas are what came on it new.

Been lurking on here for a long time and figured it was time to finally contribute.

On top is a 19-3, Serial 7K816XX, on bottom is a 19-6 I just picked up yesterday, ending a 13 year quest for a snub-nose M19. Serial BDE35XX
