Then the Doctor asked: "Do you have any guns in the house?"

In that case why didn't he ask if I had any sharp knives, ropes, stashes of drugs or if I live near a very high bridge?

IMHO, it is pure and simply a back handed attempt at gun control.

.............well he was probably working up to that before you got all fussy about it and stormed out :)

I'm a little more inclined to be curious as to why the OPs physician asked the question. Some posters are either apologising for the invasion of privacy regarding gun ownership, advocating lying (which some crazy people have an aversion to) and/or being apathetic and facilitating a crime in the state of Florida.
All free advice, and worth the price....

but......why, and who initiated this "form"?

coming up on 65 yrs old. OMG I really am old.....anyway I have never had a civilian doc or any one of my VA docs ask if I was a firearms owner...never.

I was asked once by a doc ( a good guy ) who is an avid hunter and who had discussed my pistol competition with in the past.

I asked him if docs had gun safety as part of the medical school curriculum.

Dr.: Do you have any guns in the house?

You: No.

(Yeah, it is a lie but it is none of their business and you are not under oath. You aren't going to be arrested, sued, fired or anything else for what you say. People often exaggerate, under report or misrepresent what they tell their doctors, dentists, lawyers and accountants. Or, you added the guns after you answered the question, or they weren't in the house on the day you were asked, or...)

Maybe the doctor is violating state law by asking, maybe not. If your goal is to enforce the law then make a thing out of it and follow through with some sort of complaint or lawsuit...I support you 100%. If your goal is to give the doctor an answer he can put on some form because he thinks he has to, then tell him whatever you want and move on...I support you 100%.

If you are uneasy being untruthful with your doctor, then ask him who is asking the question, him or whoever wrote the form. If he says it is whoever wrote the form, say "Then the answer is no." He will get the message.

Just my opinion and probably worth what you paid for it.

I am waiting for my doctor to ask me that question.
If and when he does, I will lean forward, look him in the eye,
and ask him if he has any kiddie porn in his house.
That should end the conversation very quickly. :D

Well now that I know what to expect i printed me out a copy
of this texas map where all the texas gun owners are represented by a little red dot.

Map of Texas Gun Owners Published

And I will just keep that little map in my billfold and present it to the doctor when they ask about guns, leaving the map with
him to send back to whoever in the federal government was
requesting the information.

I'm on Medicare and so is my wife we both got our yearly physicals a month ago . No questions about guns!

Answer "yes!" Then give a full list, including serial numbers and don't forget to give your ammo supply. Also make certain he has your address correct.
Because no one wants to disarm the citizens of this country.nobody, no how. Nope.....

.
Excuse me, I'm off to the shrink, because I'm delusional and prone to believing what snopes and the POTUS press secretary say.
But you believe unsubstantiated opinions on the internet. Very interesting.

This barely meets the requirements for the 2A forum. Some good data put forth in later posts keeps it here.

I think the issue had been covered, so we're done with it.

Thanks for these-
I'm a practicing internist and I see Medicare patients every day. There is no Medicare form that asks about firearms ownership or any requirement that doctors ask patients about firearms. The only Medicare requirement is that the doctor's office notes document the type and level of service being billed. The only type of service that requires specific questions is the Medicare Wellness Visit, but none of these questions has to do with firearms.

In fact, the Affordable Care Act (Obamacare) specifically prohibits requiring doctors to ask about firearms ownership or using medical records to form a database of firearms owners. Note that they can ask about firearms if they want to, but it's not a requirement. The OP's doctor is wrong if he thinks this a requirement for payment from Medicare.

food for thought-
It seems to me that if you give some snarky smart *** answer, you might as well say yes. Just say no.
