Thermostat war with the wife

All winter long my wife has the heat on 74-76. All summer long she has the air conditioner set for 65. Go figure.

All I can figure is that they like to hear the sound of running motors.

This problem must be universal because we go through the same thing here. But, after 41 years of marriage, I found out one thing:
If Mama ain't happy, ain't nobody happy.
If Daddy ain't happy...ain't nobody cares.
:)

My wife had a hysterectomy after the birth of our third son, and has had trouble ever since keeping her hormones adjusted. She does take her medication regularly, but it doesn't seem to work some days...or even at different times during the day.

She would keep the thermostat on 60 year around, if it was just her...I didn't use to be susceptible to cold, but as I get older, I seem to feel it more. In the winter, I wear long underwear, a sweat suit, a sweater, a knit cap, and sit in my recliner under an electric blanket to watch TV...while she is right beside me in her recliner wearing shorts and a T-shirt. She wants to have the ceiling fan on, which I refuse, so she has a small fan on her side table blowing on her.

In the summer, she really does suffer...we can't afford to keep the house as cool as she would like, but we do keep it a lot cooler than I would choose to do if it was just me. That's what they call a compromise...an agreement that makes no one happy.

My wife just seems to like it to be different than what I set it to :) I work from home and am comfortable all day until I hear the garage door open!!!

I solved the problem by installing WiFi controlled thermostats. She comes home, changes the temp, changes clothes, and sits down with the placebo of the new temperature. I then sit there on the couch and change the settings from my PC :) If she goes near the TStat, I can change it back in a jiffy!

Works like a charm!

We have a two story house and we keep it at 75. Last few years we would turn it down at night because I have to be cool to sleep at night. So we decided to get a window unit in the master bedroom so that we can just cool that room only instead of the whole house

72 in the summer and she's freezing. 70 in winter and she's freezing. Of course, she runs around the house in summer attire and sleeps with 2-4 blankets year round. Go figure.

Re: OP. My wife works all day in a state facility where the AC is set at 80. During the winter the heat is set at 68... and in her area it stays right at 66. So... when she gets home the AC/heat is set on what suits her. Me? I guess it's not that hard to adapt.

A very useful phrase in the Spanish language is "pax en la casa", literally translated as "peace in the house". In reality, it means "if mama ain't happy there ain't no way anybody gonna be happy".

Pax en mi casa (peace in my house), y (and), Pax en su casa (peace in your house).

Keep mama happy. Or else.

Just installed the lock box on the thermostat, can't wait for the wife to come home and see it!

In the winter when my stepdaughter complained of the house being cold I used to tell her to walk around the block a few times, then she would appreciate things inside. In the summer if she complained of the house being too hot I would tell her to run around the block a few times, then she would appreciate things inside. That never worked on her mother.

My ex and I didn't have much an issue in the summer but in the winter when she was cold she would tell me I could start a fire or she was turning up the thermostat...... I burned a lot of wood when I was married.
