I've never posted on this sub-forum before, but I saw a picture of a 617 with a set of diamond magnas on it and thought "this is what they need to do!"

Or more specificity, what S&W needs to do AGAIN. These 617's were a short run of 116 units with a partial underlug. A Mod 17 profile in stainless.
I put a set of old stocks on it for the picture and put it here, in The Wish List.:)

I love my new 6" 617 but it's just too dam heavy for a .22 revolver.......they could have done without the underlug.....

i would LOVE to find a 617 with no under-lug! that would be great....i do have 2 6" ers and one 8 3/8" full underlug but that top photo is amazing!

I am totally with you guys on this.

The 617 w/4" barrel and full lug balances nicely, but the full lug on the 6" barrel makes the darn thing really clumsy.

My wish would be that they would make the 6" barrel w/partial lug a permanant change to that configuration of the 617/6".

I love my 617/4" but have no interest in the 6" version specifically because it's so barrel heavy.
If Smith were to build the 6" with the partial lug, their sales would immediately increase by at least one... to me. ;)

I bring this thread back from a recent death only because I agree so much with the OP. That is an amazing looking .22LR revolver. Maybe that is why I haven't bought a new 617 yet.... I'm waiting for one of those to be made again....

My perfect 617....

Would be with an unfluted cylinder, with an adjustable front sight like the one on the 686 in the 6", or a fiber optic front sight on the 4". THAT would be perfection!!!!!!
