What's a "Rebuplic"?

A good reminder. I encourage all to take the 10 minutes to watch this. The parallels to the Roman empire at the end are blood chilling.

a very enlightening link. something that all citizens should know.

With a low speed, high drag dial-up I'm not about to see it. But Plato's "Republic" deals with what happens to a pure democracy...

The timocracy (honor-loving) society degenerates into the money-grubbing oligarchy (rule by the few); then comes the democracy (the herd) where license and thoughtlessness prevail; and when all is gone to rack and ruin, the people want a strong man--who becomes a tyrant.

"The Republic" is a hell of a read, if tough in spots. And a damn dangerous book, especially in these times.

That is not the way "they" taught American Government in my high school in the 60's.

Well, if "they" did it was a day that I dozed off.

Very interesting.

Should be required viewing in American history curriculum.

We are, in fact, a 'representative republic', and have been since the beginning.
The primary reasons?
1) Transportation to the Federal capital was
extremely slow,
***and***
2) The framers of the Constitution felt better-
equipped to deal with the issues of govern-
ment than the 'great unwashed'.
That's it, folks...The dream of 'one man, one vote' is just that...a dream.

One more trip back to the top of the page. I hope that at least half of the 618 people who have "clicked" on this Posting have actually taken the time to let this item play out but I'm guessing that the number is more like 5% but that's better than nothing.

In less than 10 minutes our kids could learn more about what our government should be than in a semester of classroom time.
