very good post. I hate it when people talk about our "democracy" as if they know what their talking about. Then when I set them straight on it they get offended. Government brainwashing in public screwls at work.

Very good post and I did watch it. This should be required watching for not only our public schools but congress as well.

Does anyone know who the narrator in the video is? I am certain that it is John McManus of the John Birch Society(www.jbs.org) and he is a fine American in his own right.

A democracy is two wolves and a sheep voting on what's for dinner. Or to paraphrase that old saying, two anti-gunners and me voting on what's in my pocket.

Couldn't open the link, but the premise is that many here didn't already understand that "democracy" is a verb and "republic" is a noun?

My kid asked her gradeschool teacher one fine day why she kept calling America a "democracy", when every morning they all pledged their allegiance "to the Republic..." Made a Dad proud!

On the other hand, Direct Democracy-Initiative and Referendum, e.g.-was advocated
as a way of breaking the special interests who all too often had judges, legislators and governors on their payrolls. I think the practice of the Town Meeting is still used in Vermont, e.g.

I checked the Link this morning and it is still working for me. It does take some time to watch but I certainly think it is worth the effort and the time.

We have meetings of the local government; all the way up to the State level, but I've attended a number of these and have found that they rarely have any direct effect on what happens. We actually Voted three(3) times not to built the Stadium that houses the local pro football team but guess what - "they" built the Stadium anyway!!! We're currently fighting a Major battle over the replacement of a particular roadway that goes through downtown Seattle. No matter which one of the "options" they decide on it will be paid for by everyone in the State in one way or another. One of the latest funding "options" is adding another percentage point to our Sales Tax and at least in many parts of the State - including where I live - it will finally take us into the 'double digits'!!!

Instead of Algore's movie on global warming this should be in every elementary school in the country.

It will never happen. Our kids are being led down the path of "more government is better".
