Thinking of a 586 4" (New Version)

I am thinking of getting a 586 4" (new version). Can people who own them give me their impressions? How well does it shoot? Recoil with 38 Spl +P?

I have had both a 586 and a 686 . older models . But to answer your question on recoil shooting 38special+P , low recoil ---- shoots like a dream . My fiance has a 586 , doesn't like recoil , shoots +P and loves hers . Regards, Paul

I'm very happy with my 586-8 Classic 4". Most accurate revolver I own. I like the stock target grips and find that the L-frame's weight soaks up a lot of recoil.

While the blue gun is gorgeous, the 686 gives you the option of 7 shots. And with more of them on shelves, there will be better chance of getting a good price. I got one off davidsons for right at $700 in November.

Shooting 38 spl..

True story..

When the Sandy Hook shooting occurred and ammo was hard to find. I answered an ad to trade a 686+ 4" for some ammo. I responded thinking it was a scam. Got an email back saying I was the only one with the list requested.OK..

I went and met half way, 1 hour, sure enough.. clean 686+ in the box..

Part of the trade was for 250 rounds of 38 spl. He told me his wife wanted a 38 pistol to shoot

I didn't ask why not just shoot 38's in the 686.. I drove away with a $225 gun..

Even 357 in the 586 is really tame. Fret not and just enjoy the freedom

I have always liked shooting my 586, I must have had it for 10 years or more now. It was a gun show find. It is older, but I would buy a new one too.

586 L comp is the way to go! 7 shot, ported, cut for moon clips, and performance center tuned. (Mind you I just polished internals and changed springs on mine for an even better trigger)

I am considering the 586 L Comp but am leaning towards the 586 4" since this will not be a carry gun.

I have a 586 Plus "seven shooter" and other than the factory stocks/grips am more than happy with it.

586 New Version

Have had my 586-8 4" for two years now. Well over 1000 rounds (mostly 38spl) and not one performance issue. Recoil with 38spl and +P very manageable. .357 magnum is more of a handful but fun to shoot in moderation. I usually limit this to 12 - 18 rounds per range visit. Very well made revolver as far as fit and finish. IL and MIM not an issue for me. Very light SA and DA is good too. Walnut grips are really nice but not comfortable with .357. If shooting these exclusively would recommend soft grips.

I ordered this gun a few days ago and I'm waiting for it to arrive at my LGS. Then I have wait another 7 days since I live in MD. I'm new to this forum and I've already gotten some good info on care of a blued gun.
