I believe I'd like to get something that will use 357Sig. I'm leaning toward a SIG Arms 229 or 226. Possibly even a S&W M&P. I've heard nothing but good things about the accuracy on the SIGs. What are your thoughts on the caliber and the guns? My Beretta was my first handgun, and is in beautiful condition. Will I be kicking myself for trading it in? I'd like to keep it, but my finances won't allow it at the moment. I realize this is not the semi-auto area of the forum, but I wanted a wider range of opinions.

I learned some time ago don't trade them off, just get what you want! You will regret it. Take the word of a real old timer...trading them off is not good!

Ammo is a bit expensive, but on the positive side, seems to still be somewhat more available than many other offerings. Expect to pay over 20 a box for even practice FMJs, any type of JHP will be about 30 a box. If your finances can't support two guns, they might not support the .357 Sig in all honesty.

I have a P229R and a Glock 32, both in .357 Sig.

If you don't like the .357 Sig, a simple barrel swap will turn either into a .40SW and many Sig guns come with both barrels.

I would tend to keep the Berretta- I had one and would still have it except a budyy wanted it more and the trade was one where I woulda been stupid to say no to it. As your first if you are sentimental at all I would keep it for that reason alone.

9mm is a tad cheaper- or was anyhow :rolleyes"

I have the 226 in 9mm and while I like it I don't think I would take the loss on the Beretta only to get a sig... if ya are patient and can wait you WILL eventually come across a steal type deal on a sig... patience is the key.

I guess that unless ya really have a serious reason to go 357 sig over the 9mm I would stay put. Thats just me...

+1 on that. EVERY gun I have traded off I regret, plus it's not like the 92 is worth hundreds of dollars, it's not an Ed Brown custom 1911, it's a dime a dozen Beretta.

Keep the Beretta. I wanted one but the 92 was too large for my hand. I am very happy with my MP9C. I went with 9mm as a simple matter of economics. Forty cal, 45 or 357 Sig are very pricey vs 9mm (though I wish wally world would get more in soon). I am sure you would be very happy with any of the MP line, great guns.

+1+. Unless you absolutely can't afford more than one gun at a time, don't trade the Beretta. If you want a Sig in .357 Sig, then buy it and add it to your stable. (I've never had anything in .357 Sig, but the ballistics look promising... if you can afford to feed it, then go for it! Just keep the Beretta.)

GC is sooo right. Never trade off a gun. When you want a new one save up and just get it. You will never regret keeping one but trading one off...yep, usually regret it.

As for the .357 Sig, there is nothing wrong at all with the round. The State Police (DPS) here in Texas carry the 226 in .357 Sig.

Some just don't like bottlenose cases, some see it as the answer to a question nobody asked. I say if you like it, go for it. There will be ammo, too. The round isn not going to go out of production anytime soon, despite what you may be hearing.

Sgt Preston here. I buy & sell frequently. Each time I buy I try to move "up a notch". I put an absolute limit on the number of guns I own. For example, I just bought a new S&W SSR 686 357 revolver that I'll pick it this Friday. As soon as I am sure the new one is better than my "similar" Ruger GP100, I'll sell the Ruger. The Ruger has been a perfect gun, but it's time to sell it & put the money back in my "gun" fund. I just don't need (2) 357 revolvers. I have never regretted selling the old guns. Just another opinion & point of view. Sgt Preston USMC LLA.

There was and is only so much discretionary income. With the family raised and educated I thought broadening my collection would be a fine endeavor but after awhile came to the realization there are only so many tools/toys one can use/ play with. I don’t see myself five years from now shooting competitive rifle among other things. While I’ve derived enjoyment I’ll sell what firearms I no longer use with out regret. Sometimes it’s just best to be pragmatic and work with in the parameters of your situation. That’s my experience based on fifty years of chasing the next dream gun.

Gotta admit that my sentiments have changed on this issue as I have gotten older. I used to keep every single firearm I ever bought but not any more.

I'm in my 60's now and retired. My wife still works but the income is fixed for me so I am looking at the side of "needing" a firearm more than just keeping the safe bulging. I've been selling off revolvers that I have duplicates of and my hunting rifles are just collecting dust now because I am getting too old to climb the Rockies like I used to. Besides, for the local whitetails, my favorite is my Savage in 06, which happens to be the cheapest of all my long rifles.

Just me, but if I knew damn well I wasn't going to shoot the Beretta much, I'd let her go.

If you really want the Sig and can't afford it without trading off the Beretta, then do the trade. Its not like you'll never be able to find another 92. I buy, sell, and trade. If I didn't, I would have missed out on owning and shooting a lot of guns I couldn't have had otherwise.

I had two Beretta's that I traded away years ago: A 92FS and a single-stack M. I have always regretted it. I recently reaquired a 92FS which is now a permanent fixture. Still looking to replace the M.

You guys have about talked me in to keeping the Beretta. I'll just have to wait a while and save up the money. With a wife and two daughters that's easier said than done.

"Ammo is a bit expensive, but on the positive side, seems to still be somewhat more available than many other offerings."

That is what originally got my attention. I've noticed there are always a couple of boxes at the local Wal-Mart. I asked my brother-in-law , a police detective, and he said that his department uses 357Sig and he likes it alot. I've also had a bit of accuracy issues with my Beretta. Never enough to do anything about it, but always bugs me a little. Regardless, I think I'll regret it if I sell it.
