This is how you spend 2 hours and ruin $100 grips

I have a couple sets of JM's grips. They are smooth dark walnut with no initials. I used fine steel wool on them & a drop or 2 of true oil.

In your case I would have taken the initials off and finished as you have. I think they look great.

Not interested in advertising someone's grips. (Might make an exception for Keith Brown) :)

Honest to Betsy, I once took a wood rasp to a set of target stocks off a Model 29.

It looked like it, too. Dang things were just too big for my hands so I thought, "What the heck?".

That was back when S&W's were crowding the glass under the counters.

We have all committed our own little ...Faux Pas' ... from time to time ...
Just chalk it up to Lesson Learned the Hard Way ...and Carry On .

Refinish the grips and don't tell anyone else the whole story ...
I wont tell anyone if you don't !

You made them look better. I do not know much about Jerry other than he is supposed to be a great shooter. Would you want JM on your underwear?

You have a nice color now. Skip the poly, and go straight to 3 coats of Renwax

I like them better now. Getting JM to sign them would I think make them more personally associated to him. But don’t fret. Before knowing better over 20 years ago I sanded down a set of checkered Python grips. I later found out I turned around $250 or more grips I paid $7 for into grips worth around $7 now. I then found another pair on Craigslist for $25. Then sold them for $275.
