GunBusters parts kits for the SD at Gunbroker.

Includes all parts for the SD except the polymer frame.

I bought one of these kits for my SD40 for $52 bucks.

I've been following these auctions for quite a while. Often the parts kits sell for near the price of a good used SD9VE. Sometimes you can find a bargain but they usually go for around $150 and then shipping adds another $12.50. Used complete pistols are around $200 here. Other than recoil spring assemblies I've never needed any spare parts myself. I have backup SD9VE's in case one ever needs service, but that hasn't happened.

Good find, ClaytonG. Presumably no one needs all those parts, but the Gun Busters recovered parts kit is a good way to get parts that are otherwise unavailable... The quality of the parts may vary... some may be damaged... but on average they should be pretty much okay.

The parts that are most likely to wear out or break on a pistol include springs in general, and then a couple of assemblies that work with springs: the extractor, the recoil spring assembly, and the striker assembly.

Parts like a slide or a barrel should last forever, but I can see replacing a slide that has taken a beating, or getting a second slide cerakoted in a different color or something. Not essential, but hobbies are supposed to be fun. (I buy and shoot guns because I cannot afford to buy cars and trucks and race them).

And the interesting thing is the gun parts from Gun Busters are what's left of a pistol that was used in a crime (or recovered from a crime scene, or found and not claimed, etc.). I've read that SD's are one of the most popular/preferred guns for criminals... along with Glocks. (A quick glance at some articles on the topic shows criminals get caught with a lot of revolvers, too -- presumably usually stolen -- and a host of small, cheap pocket pistols -- for obvious reasons).

For some guns that are special, or rare, or expensive, this sort of thing may give somebody else's gun a lease on life. For SD's, SD9/40VEs, etc., it gives owners an option to get parts that may be needed.

Now the question is: "Can I use a SD40VE slide on a SD9VE frame?"
If the dimensions of the 40 and 9 frames are the same you can switch calibers by swapping slides. I do that a lot with my SIG P229. I can switch between 4 different calibers. Besides the fun of shooting different calibers out of the same gun, the main advantage is that you don't have to worry if ammo in one caliber gets scarce (like it was with 9mm a few years back). You just swap the slides and shoot what's available.

Never thought of changing out the slides on my two SD's, got a .40 and a .9mm. Well the .40's my wifes, but hey community property right? LOL

mags and frames are different from 9mm & 40s&w. One of my biggest beef with these pistols. 9mm mag is a little too loose in the 40 frame and the 40 mag will not fit in a 9mm magwell.

Might be possible if you can make a 40 magazine reliable in 9mm but the feedlips need to be more narrow and they a heat treated. Typically heat treated mags will either crack when bent or return to form after being loaded and presure is placed back on the lips.

I like both. Typically I practice with the 9mm and carry the 40s&w just because 9mm ammo is so cheap and is easy on the gun. I think its pretty silly useing 9mm over 40 for self defense but thats just me.

I have already tried the 9mm to 40 conversion. I bought all the stuff of GB to do it but they didn't interchange. The seller gave me a refund and no bad feedback and was a nice guy about it. When I talked to him he told me if I had of asked if this would work he could have told me no and saved us both a bunch of hassle.

I haven't fired that many rounds through my SD9VE and it has been perfect. Love the gun. It has been my truck gun for several years.

I would like to get a new recoil spring set up for a spare. Any suggestions where and what to buy?
