About ten years ago I bought a little bitty one, a California legal knife from Pro-tech. I find it fun as a knickknack, and occasionally carry it.
On the whole, though, I prefer the look of the traditional slip-joint pocketknives.
I do see the one-hand value of an auto or assisted opening knife for first responders as in Faulkner’s story above. And I have found the one handed operation of the Leatherman Wave useful while working on something that requires one hand to keep it steady or in place while the other is deploying a blade or the pliers.
I’m enjoying the image of Pawngal at her fund raising dinners when she pulls out her auto — click! — and starts in on her rubber chicken. I bet her fellow diners don’t pick many arguments with her!
