Yes I cleaned up some beautiful walnut stocks and will give it a zinc park finish once I fit and test everything. I already made up a bunch of handloads for it.
So in absence of finding a tap, does anyone have a recommendation for a smith smith that can fix this for me?
See Post #19.
Southern Precision is an old time/long time machine shop/gunsmiths/ inventor/developer of the HU-DU (sp??) muzzle brake. Have a look at their videos on that! (I don't know beans from apple butter about big bad thumping high power rifles, but their muzzle brake tames them from Lions down to house cats!)
They're out in the weeds near Maryville, Tennessee (S&W's new digs). I've looked for, and can't find their card, but if you Google Southern Precision (whose whole name might be Southern Precision Machine & Tool or some such), you'll come up with them.
Bottom Line: If they can't fix yours, they can make a new one.
My one and only experience with them was impressive! I figured on a looooooooooog wait for a job that was done ( I don't remember exactly.) but in a matter of days----and fit and functioned perfectly!
Perhaps the most impressive aspect of their operation is their staff---part of which are ancients who speak with the authority of been there and done that---and in a tone which tells you to check around if you like, but you'd be wasting your time.
