I have a Tisas 1911 tank commander 9mm brand new and this guy offered me a Girsan MCP35 PI 9mm 50 rounds through it as trade for my Tisas.
Is this a good trade?

Myself, I would never give up a 1911 to acquire a High Power

It does not matter to me who the manufacturer is of either firearm

But then there are those folks that love the High Power and would probably feel the other way

The Girsan P35 is likely a pretty solid performer. I am a big fan of the Hi Power platform. Girsan has the production dialed in and I haven’t many complaints on functionality.

That’s a beautiful Tank Commander too. Seems a fair trade.

I would make the trade. I have two Browning HPs. One i bought new in 1977 and a MK III that I bought in new condition at a consignment auction several years ago. The HP is one of the best 9mms ever and has been used by many military forces around the world. It is simply a better gun than the 1911.

Ask yourself, why did J.M. Browning design the 1911 for 45ACP? Was it HIS idea? Nope, the 45ACP round came into existence in 1905 as a fully developed round! Browning favored a smaller bore round along the lines of the 38 Super or a then not developed 40 caliber, but the ARMY specified any new service pistol must chamber the 45ACP.
This is why Luger built a series of 45ACP chambered guns for testing, even though the 9mm was then in-service in Germany.

When Browning pulled up stakes and went to Europe he began work on his seminal design that eventually became the Hi Power, a 9mm, 13+1 shot pistol that to this very day has never really be eclipsed in terms of form and function. Pick up a Hi Power and note it has a lower bore axis than even Glock! The Hi Power is slender, sleeker than the 1911, with the weight biased in the hand rather than muzzle. Even with a steel frame, the Hi Power is not a heavy pistol. The Hi Power of today can hold 16+1 which is over double the shots of the mighty 1911 in 45ACP. When each bullet can kill, can wound, the logic of having twice as many makes a lot of sense versus the notion of putting someone down with a single, massive round - which the 350fpe 45ACP is NOT any more than the 330fpe 9mm round!
The reason the 9mm has become preeminent is because a hit to the chest cavity with a single round has the same statistical probability of incapacitation as the 45ACP! I know that hurts to read, or hear, but them's the facts, and everybody would rather have 17 shots over 8 everyday including Sunday and federal and state holidays.

With all that said, and admitting I own pretty much one of everything and 2-5 of most, I'd take the Girsan trade over the Tisas. I don't think you'll come out thinking you lost something. In general, 1911 chambered handguns today are much less expensive than the much more recently introduced Hi Power clones. Either is a fine choice, but come on, if you decide you NEED a handgun for defense, are you REALLY gonna grab your trusty 8-shooter? Or your 17 shooter?

And for the record, though OEM 45ACP has an edge over 9mm, statistically that means nothing. the 45ACP simply isn't THAT much more potent than the 9mm to make a "yuge" difference.

To my knowledge they are both Turkish made handguns. Others are right which caliber do you want? I can speak to that I have shot both manufactured guns. The Turks are great at making guns. I have not had any problems with ANY of mine. Actually if you have the funds I would just go out and buy the Girsan as they are really reasonable in price after all it is Xmas season!

The fairness of this proposed trade depends upon which you like the most and/or which feels best in your hands.

If you want a "spray and pray" firearm then the Girsan (Hi-Power) is for you. If you want a great fighting piece that can be among the most accurate pistils in the world get the Tisa's. How many Hi-Powers do you see in competition? Yes, I prefer a 1911 in .45 ACP vs anything in 9MM.

I guess the trade is happening. I'll let you guys know how it goes.

If the Tank Commander was in .45 I'd keep it.

Since the trade is around two 9mm's, I'd probably go with the Hi Power clone. The 1911 in 9mm holds no advantage over a Hi Power which has higher capacity mags, and to me the Hi Power is the most ergonomic handgun I've ever held in my hand.
