TO MY FELLOW VETS

The HMMWV was in the 2nd annual Veteran's Day parade again this year. Last year I carried the WWII vets that were the Grand Marshalls, but this year they decided the vehicle was too much to get in and out of, so I got pushed back from lead to #16.

This year's Grand Marshalls in the picture here, 101 and 100 years young left to right.

The rain reduced the parade watchers somewhat from last year, but that's the time of year and not much we can do about that.

They took the vehicles able to navigate the tight driveway up through the Martha & Mary's so the residents could watch from the breezeway.

I didn't serve, but my maternal grandfather served in World War I. The one picture is of him as a doughboy, and the other is of him holding me when I was a baby. As the Vice Commander of our local squadron of the Sons of the American Legion, I want to thank all of our veterans for their service to our country.

I often think about a couple of my ancestors who came to America and ended up fighting for America. One got off the boat and the other had the boat sink under him. They weren't born here, but they thought the idea of America was worth fighting for.

Thank you to all who served. There was a luncheon for us at the hospital I work at and the fellowship was enjoyable. We were given a small token of thanks and given an opportunity to speak if we felt lead. I told them I'd served in the Air Force and the Army but the thing I was most proud of was my son's recent retirement from the Air Force as a Master Sergeant.

My church had a nice little Veterans Day luncheon, sponsored by the Deacons. I am a veteran and a deacon so I did double duty.
The War on Terror having military service fashionable again, and a resume enhancer, it amuses to see those who like to tout their "veteran" status.

MY American Legion Post Veterens Day's guest was a WWII Veteren (98yoa) and His Son. The WWII Veteren walks with a cane (slowly) but His eyes has the look of a True Warrior and His courageous Heart still pumps Red, White, and Blue. When our Honor Guard posted the Colors He stood erect and gave a strong salute. After the rifle volley and playing of Taps every eye was wet.
While I still live and My Country sounds the Drum Roll and Bugle Call of "Call To Arms" I will be one of the first to answer the call. I might not be able to run and jump but put me in a fixed position and my Country's enemy will discover why America is called "A Nation Of Riflemen".

Many of you folks have seen my rants in the past so I won't bore you with repetition.

In addition to being a Vietnam veteran today is my birthday. Nice afternoon at the VFW, nice meal with my wife, a few appreciated calls from my kids and grandkids. Still happy to be here and grateful for every day.

Happy Birthday and thank you for your service. Tomorrow go out to the local gun shops and find an appropriate present for yourself, then take it out and play with it.

Thanks to all my fellow Veterans for their service. From the late 70s I still have leftovers in the closet
