took a chance at a Gun Show.. 4 inch model 19 barrel?

ok.. so going thru a small town gun show Thanksgiving weekend.. guy has a barrel in a baggy... marked 357 magnum Smith and Wesson... full ejector shroud.. assuming model 19.. measured just over 3 inches, so for a 4 inch model... I am NOT a gun tinkerer... but the price felt silly low, so it came home with me... did I guess correctly?
what's it actually worth?

That looks like a 4" M19 barrel. You measure the entire barrel, including the threaded part.

I'm guessing a hundred bucks but I'm not really sure what the market is like right now. I have a 6-1/2 inch M29 .44 Mag barrel I need to sell and I don't know what to ask either.

They are priceless for those that have had 19's with busted/cracked forcing cones.
Pics from 1986. My 4 in nickel replacement barrel from a vendor was $40.00.......Probably worth 5 x's that now due to being scarce. Ironically I probably haven't shot that 19, 200 times since.

I think that it might be earlier than that. The ampersand looks 'lazy', maybe an late 50's era to mid-60's?

I'm by no means an expert

Definately not the lazy ampersand, look again. Right side is a lazy ampersand, left is not. Mea culpa I only looked at one side.

Unless the forcing cone is cracked, its a good piece of property have around. You did well, as they are not as easy to find as they once were.

I just looked on Numrich and I think that barrel costs $193.05. The barrels for all the M19s are the same part numbers but all the M19 barrels are Out Of Stock. (from 2 1/2" to 6") You didn't say what you paid but all the M19 barrels are between $172 to $222 with yours being $193 like I said above.

Going to swap it next week or so

I think there are a lot more of them out there than people imagine. Every time I've needed one over the past 20 years or so I always found one within a week or two

I'd buy it for a decent price.
There are enough M-19's out there with cracked forcing cones that I'd buy it as a spare for my 19-3, given the chance.
