Our new laptop has a touchpad - never used one before. Did not know how many hand gestures and positions were possible and still not be obscene - 1, 2, 3 and even 4 finger swipes, pushes, spreads, points, brushes and drags.

Gonna take some getting used to - it's a good thing the for sale area doesn't have "one-click" buying :D

I find hand shadow and movements caused me to go places I didn't want to go. I would be typing and all of a sudden the cursor is in a different place and I'm typing on top of the letter instead of where I thought I was typing and the whole touch pad experience was not fun. I purchased a Logitech wireless mouse installed it and turned off the touch pad and couldn't be happier. If you find this touch pad to be cumbersome, you might try a wireless mouse on for size. I'm sure glad I did.

Same here. I hate the touchpad on our laptop. My wife and kids use it, but I suck at it.

I had a laptop that was so touchy that I took a thin piece of cardboard and taped it to hand as a flap over the pad. Ghetto? Yes. But it worked and I didn't fling the thing off a bridge. It made me wish someone would make a sliding gate cover or similar.

Get a Nano Mouse. This is a wireless mouse with a little transmitter that plugs into the plug in port on the laptop. Only sticks out about 1/4" and I have never taken mine out since I plugged it in. I dislike the mouse pad.

Here too - Wireless mouse (Logitech Anywhere MX).
The touch pad is OK for when I'm actually using the notebook away from home though.
THE first thing I do is turn off the *touch to click* or whatever they call it and use the buttons instead.

you can slow the pointer speed down in your "control panel". just click on the "mouse" or "pointer" in your control panel and it gives you a slide button for different mouse speeds. after you get the speed you want click apply and ok, done.:)

That wasn't the issue. I actually usually set my mouse at a faster speed. The issue was the touch settings being too sensitive. Even with the click options turned off, you can find yourself highlighting something and next thing you know everything you are typing is a huge jumble. I had never seen a touch pad that was that sensitive.

got ya. i had the same problem.

Yep, another "don't like it". I've used a wired optical mouse on my laptops for as long as optical mice (mouses, meece?) have been available.

I absolutely hate the touch pads! We were issued laptops at work and I hated them. Best thing I ever did was buy a wireless mouse for it. I still don't like laptops but the mouse makes it tolerable.

I agree Pete. We put a keyboard and mouse on my wife's lap top. Don

At 63, learning to use a mouse, trackball, or touch pad did not come natural to me, but I've managed to do fairly well. As i now use a laptop only I've forced myself to become proficient with the touch pad. If I were to use a laptop for hours at a time I would invest in a wireless mouse.

Pick one device and work with it, don't get discouraged.

Me three. The touchpad on the laptop is only used in an emergency. Like when the laptop is actually on my lap and there's no flat surface nearby to use a wireless mouse.

Try using the mouse on the arm of your recliner, or on your pants leg, works just fine. No reason at all to need a flat surface for the mouse. Even the flat of the wrist rest of the computer under the keyboard, probably the area with all the stickers on it. This has cosmetic implications for the finish on the computer though.

Another vote for the mouse!

Maximumbob54,

That sounds like the hard way to do things. Go into the Control Panel, select "mouse" which controls all the pointing devices, and turn thr touch pad off. Or, if you have an Acer there is a button right next to the power button that turns the touch pad on and off. I know some other makes have a similar button somewhere on the top of the keyboard.
