Trade a 442 for a 642?

442

I think the blued 442 finish holds up better than the 642 finish, at least with mine thats what has happened.

My personal opinion about CCW is that it is a tool for self defense.

I use it almost everday and it is exposed to sweat, grime, dust, etc.

I chose the LCR because of its trigger and ability to fire a .357 mag ( yes, the short barrel probably negates the power of the .357 but, I like it)

Had I not purchased the LCR, I probably would have went with the SW Bodyguard .38 (polymer revolver).

I like the corrosion resistance of the LCR and Bodyguard .38 and the simplicity and reliability if the revolver.

IWB appendix carry

Just my personal opinion. Works for me.

I just couldn't carry a nice Smith in the summer worrying about my sweat pitting that beautiful finish.

All that being said 442 or 642, you can't go wrong with either one.

Only a year of declared pocket-carry, but no marks yet.
Only a gun and a holster occupy that pocket. 'Course, I don't
play Any sports whilst carrying, either. YMMV

Well, Frank, those are the same J frames I have for regular carry, although both of mine have CT laser grips. I started with the 442 but found that the way *I* carry it (IWB in a Kholster, outside a T-shirt but covered by a sweater in cooler weather, without a T-shirt but covered by a Hawaiian shirt when it's warm) I got rust on the inside surface of the yoke, where it mates against the frame, in a day or two if I didn't wipe the thing down every night with a silicone cloth. I know it doesn't sound like much to do, but I went to the 442 after years of carrying a Glock 26 the same way and never having a speck of rust anywhere with no regular maintenance.

I mostly carry the 638 now, largely because I just like the idea of being able to cock the hammer if I want to (and it's much easier to amaze the others at the shooting club with long range shots.) I have NO rust issues with it, despite no daily maintenance. I solved the hard-to-see-stainless-sights issue with black paint on the front sight and in the rear sight cutout and rear notch surfaces - flat black model paint applied with a toothpick.

P.S. If either has a lock, I wouldn't trade anything for it. N

I have no interest in locked revolvers.

Absent lock, I'd prefer the older S&W.

The older the better in terms of fit and finish and action.

Just my opinion , of course.

Helderberg, I like the pair of snubbies you have there. Sometimes two are better than one.
