What is the value of a like new 686 like above???

There are a few on gunbroker in the $500-600 range. I just bought a 686-6 7 shot for around $600. Hope that helps.

Three words: GO FOR IT!

Last summer, I traded one of the guys I work with at the PD a G23 that I absolutely DESPISED for his old duty gun, an M66-2. After cleaning it up, I had this:

I got a good DA revolver with some personal history behind it, he got a good gun to back up his G22 duty gun. We were both happy, although I personally feel I got the better deal! For me, the 66 shoots WAY better than the G23 did, not to mention I am really starting to like DA revolvers more than autos!

Like I said above, go for it! If you decide you don't like the 686, you can always sell it and likely buy another G23 with what you get from selling the 686. As long as you like DA revolvers, I don't think you will be disappointed.

The bottom feeders are not the answer for bad marksmanship. And 15 shots fired and no hits is comman. Most people know thay can,t hit the side of a barn and think the auto will make up for it. We have had 27 shots fired by officers and no hits on the perp and one officer hit by the other in crossfire.

Traded the bottom feeder Glock 23 for the 686-4,, 2.5". Its very good plus and tight with no signs of use other than test fire. When was the dash 4 made and what is the value?? Was this a fair trade for even??? Something about the SW that speaks of all bussiness and well made.

I think I would be happy! G23s are a dime a dozen these days. I see more than a few police department trade-ins. And, JMHO, although the Glock seems to hold up very well in 9mm, it may not do quite so well in .40 caliber. The 686 is a tank and should stand up to a lot of shooting before it needs service if you just take a little time to properly clean and lube it after shooting.

I was mistaken its a 686-3 not 4. Dash 3 was made when?
