Well after countless problems with my colt m4 22, and a trip back to the manufacturer for a total rebuild. I decided to get a S&W m&P 15-22 and I'm glad to say I love this gun! easier to clean. Bolt release actually works, and it shoots! wow thats a bonus! A gun that shoots. What a *** that colt was. I've heard mixed reviews on them but mine was horrible from day one and it never improved. The Smith is better in every aspect. (except I loved the M4 styling of the Colt) If you know anyone looking to buy a Colt/umarex 22 please talk them out of it unless they want a $600 paper weight.

One day at the range last summer the guy in the next position, after eyeballing my 15-22 for hours, asked what kind of rifle it was. When I told him it was the S&W 15-22 he got even more interested. He was just about to pick up a Colt/Umarex... he has shot a friends and really wanted an AR flavor rimfire of his own. He mentioned that his friends Colt was problematic and that it was explained to him that "all 22's are like that", but after watching me rip through more than a thousand rounds with no more than a handful of mis-feeds his mind was changed. The Colt was off his list and the Smith was on.

I'm sure there are a lot of Colt owners out there that are happy with their rifles, but when to compare the two in the field the Smith just seems to have more going for it.

The Umarex was actually the rifle that started my Tactical 22 lust, and I came
very close to getting one, until I was able to fire a 15-22 at a local indoor range.

The fact that it behaves like my old .223 was a big plus for me, and even
though the range rental was filthy, it kept right on chucking `em down range
with exceptional accuracy.

2 weeks later, I bought my own. Finally got a chance this last weekend to
really give it a break in with about 1,000 rounds through it at an outdoor
plinking place. No issues at all, was even popping golf-balls from 30 yards
away, 3 in a row.

Yup, glad I got the 15-22!

Well, for what its worth, I have the Colt M4 .22, and it has worked very well for me thru about 4K rounds, so far.

When I first got it, lots of misfires (seemed the bolt was not closing all the way). Went back and read the manual, where they talked about an adjustment screw located in the action. Noted this screw was turned all the way down, tight. Backed it off three turns, and the gun as proven almost 100% since, with just about any high velocity load. Federal bulk works as well as anything.

Now, from what I have read here, the S&W is not without its problems as well....

22 semi autos, from all makers can be finicky sometimes, but most problems are solved by using the right ammo, and keeping the gun clean.

i have the 15-22 and it's been entirely reliable but...that colt is fine looking

Congrats to anybody who got a good colt! I loved the looks of the gun. It just didnt shoot. Umarex even rebuilt the entire internals and sent me a free magazine for my problems. However after about 300 rounds I was back to square 1. I got tired of cleaning it when my buddies were shooting thier M&P 22's. Every 200 rounds or so I would have to spray the chamber out and clean the particals out of it to allow the slide to function. Umarex should stick to making airsoft guns!
