There was a landslide today in Chaffee County. One of our posters, K.38 lives at the mouth of the canyon (Chalk Creek). It seems the recent rainfall caused a cliff to give away, bringing down rocks the size of cars. And under it was where the party of 6 was hiking. One little girl survived, 5 others perished.
It was of interest to me because my family went to the canyon for our summer vacation, and my son's wife wanted to hike up to the falls. I usually have better sense but when I saw it was only ".5" miles I agreed to go. Like a fool, I tried to keep up with his youngest. And of course it nearly killed me. I live at 537 feet above sea level. Even worse was the idea the trail heads up hill, then more. It gains 490 feet in 2500. I think that means its a 20% grade, and too much for me. I need more exercise.
