Transition From 9mm Shield To M&P 9C

As others mentioned a grip sleeve or grip tape may satisfy your problems. However, I can't say enough great things about my 9c 1.0 and 2.0.

2 years ago I got my first handgun. So experience is what it is, but before buying I tested the Shield and 9c 1.0 extensively -it was a difficult decision. I felt the Shield was a bit small for me, and for other reasons I went the way of the 9c.

Totally glad I opted for the 9c 1.0 back then, but I love the Shield too.

Both my 9c (1.0/2.0) have been flawless. The 1.0 has seen roughly 4k rounds in the two years I've owned it. I've fired all types of ammo brands, 115/124/147 grains, etc and never a single problem.

I'll never sell it and trust my 9c 1.0 immensely as my EDC. It shares time with my 2.0 now, but still love it. I live in Florida so it's 90% of the time in shorts and a t-shirt. No concealment issues in the slightest, I carry iwb about 3 o'clock.

If grip tape or a sleeve solves your issue -awesome. But, if you are set on testing a 9c (either one) you can't go wrong.

A couple small advantages to the 9c 1.0 I find to be a nice benefit. It obviously can use the 12/15/17 round mags and given the Shield doesn't it's a bonus.

As far as fit in my hand, it feels really natural (it's subjective I know). While I consistently use the medium backstrap I like the small size too.

For me the only minor con was grip length, but I knew that was the case for any compact with my hands so not really a gun specific negative.

As a side note:
I contacted XGRIP last week and they let me know they are rolling out a mag sleeve this summer for the 9c 1.0 to accommodate the new 2.0 9c 15 round mags.
*Take it with a grain of salt from a manufacturer, but since they responded to my question I have to assume they are truly rolling one out pretty soon.

I did it! Bought the last one in stock at local gun store. Very happy with choice. Do the 15/17 round mags of the full size M&P properly fit the 9C? Do you use a sleeve for the 17 rounder? Finally, any suggestions how to loosen up the tool used for changing out palmswells? A bear to dislodge.
Appreciate any input.

Congrats!

I keep up with pricing and availability of the original 9c. There aren't that many up for sale, they're out there, but seems like it's holding it's popularity with existing owners. I'll probably pickup another given the chance.

Yes, the 15 round 9 Compact 2.0 and 9 FS 17 round mags fit the 9c 1.0 (image included). There is no after market mag sleeve for the 15 round mag to fit the 9c 1.0. But, XGRIP says to be rolling one out this summer. For now I bought a few cheap versions (knock offs) of the XGRIP and cut them down to fit the 15 round mag while at the range. I don't carry it that way, but fun for the range.

XGRIP already makes a mag sleeve for the 17 round magazine to fit the 9c 1.0 (image included).

The first few times it was tough to pull out the back strap tool. Twist the tool until it's perpendicular with the grip (image included). Once it's perpendicular it slides right out. Any variation and their is a small plastic catch piece on the tool, which gets caught up on the inside of the grip.

Ballanrk,
Just read the 17 round M&P mag will fit the 9C. Your thoughts, please.

The 17 round mags have ran great for me with the XGRIP adapter. Unlike aftermarket mag extensions I have no problem using the XGRIP since it's a non critical component for the gun to fire. The 9c being my first handgun purchase and primarily my choice for CC. I also wanted something that could serve as a bedside gun at least temporarily. I purposely bought the 9c so I could carry by day and at night I simply loaded a 17 round mag. Fast forward a few years after being bit by the gun bug and I have more options. I still keep the 9c loaded with a 17 rounder when it's at home.

The 17 round mags made the range visits better for a new shooter like me. Now I simply enjoy the versatility of shooting the 17 round mag at the range. I never intended or have tried carrying it, but as far dependability goes in combination with the 9c.

Same experience for any S&W mag I've ran in the 9c. Always feeds and the gun goes bang.

I am considering selling my 9C 1.0. My biggest complaint with my 9C 1.0 is the paddle safety. After reading this thread I decided to swap out my Shield 1.0 with the 9C and carry in my Sticky holster. On several checks that dam paddle safety had been moved into the OFF position!
I realize a different holster would prevent this but I love my Sticky and have no issues with my Shield 1.0 safety.

A while back someone here posted about a mag sleave that could be cut down to use the 2.0c 15 rnd mag in a 1.0c. Sorry to say I have 3 extras but the only ID is a very faint Amerigun.com but that web site seems to be just links to other sites. Search this forum for the link. The sleeves are too long so you modify them by shortening either the top or botton. Depending which you get two different results;

I use the second one.

Carry on. :D

Yep. The fullsize mags will fit both 1.0 and 2.0 M&P compacts. The only difference is the size of the gap.

I use Xgrips to adapt my FS mags (I have a FS 1.0) to my 9C (also 1.0). At the range I even shoot my 9C without the Xgrip to get a feel for how the grip changes.

Sadly, being in CA I'm limited to 10 rounds, so other than the grip change, there's no real advantage to using FS mags. :( Still, it means I have plenty of spare mags for the 9C. :)
