ok... i decieded to do the 15 min trigger job and have a question and didn't notice it before. the gun is new to me so forgive.. i trimmed the hammer spring, bent the trigger springs up, polished the trigger with metal polish ... not sure if i did something wrong or not.. with the upper removed and manually set the hammer i was checking the feel. the trigger play i understand is normal on this gun, but it sticks right before you get the actual pull. so in the play area it binds.. it's hard to explain so sorry if i sound like a newb.. set screw?? or am i just a worry wart

Is the trigger binding when you start to squeeze it or does it bind more towards the the break? Stock AR triggers tend to have quite a bit of creep to them. A set screw under the grip will take up some of that beginning creep. Did it do this before?

You should never take a gun to a play area.

I could not resist....sorry.

I'm sure your question will be answered by one of this forum's experts.

There is no "play" or "take up" in a M16/AR15 trigger, the sear is part of the trigger and is moving as soon as you apply pressure. Diddling with a set screw (which you'd have to add) just reduces sear engagement and is asking for trouble.

Shoot the rifle and see if it smooths out. Mine did.

yeah i just can't leave new toys alone and when i read mods that work for people i usually go that route. i'll throw a few hundred rounds in it and report back.

Since no one else asked, I will. Why didn't you just get the JP spring kit ($10). You get a proven solution and don't have to mod the originals. (I wonder what S&W would say/do if they received back a 15-22 for warranty repair and it has cut and bent springs?)
