Well, I have wanted a 3" 66 for some time. I don't know what happened, but the stars aligned recently, and now I am the proud owner of three: 66-2 (Ashland), 66-4, and 66-5 (Lew Horton). Now all I need is a dash 3 and I will be set :)

Anyone else have any love for the 3 inch model 66's?

Those are some great looking pieces. I also love the 3" 66
I tend to buy guns when I least expect it (when the price is just right) not when I'm looking for a specific model. That is how I got into the 3" 66 game with perhaps one of the tougher ones to find, the super K L.H. P.C.
That has me trying to track down many more!!! Hope some day to have a set like those!!

SAfireman, Glad you had such a streak of good fortune and were able to get guns you wanted.
Very nice looking trio!!

I love them a lot, i got a 4'' 66 no dash , here in Canada it is classify prohibided so it means i got the privilege of keeping it cause of mi age i got the grandpa privilege but when i passe away mi grand children won't be allow to keep it, it will be destroy by the police unless i get an export license and i sell it to an interested USA citysen. so here in Canada it is a good place for you guys to buy for cheep price all kind of fire armes that are 4'' or shorter.

Nice..... I've got two -3s and a -4.

Got the -3s back in 89 or 90 new when no one wanted them.... if it didn't have 15 up the butt it wasn't worth having ..... would get you killed when you ran out of bullets!

Ran across the -4 about 15 years ago in a LGS ..... marked as a "S&W Model 66 .357mag " for just over three bills......Story was "an older guy traded it on a j-frame".

I must ask, what is Ashland? Was that a distributor or something?

Very nice guns all! I have a 6 inch 66-3, but nothing that short.

Was just checking the local gun trader site, and a guy has a 65-5 Lady Smith for $600. Same thing as a fixed sight 3" 66.

If it was a regular 3 hour drive I'd be on my way right now, but it's a 3 hour drive on I-4 which means a possible 6 hour drive.

That sounds like a heck of a good deal. I have seen the 65-5 Lady Smith go for over a grand (for the complete package), and $800 for just the gun.

The 3" 65's are great carry guns without the worry of knocking the sights around or getting them knocked out of adjustment.

Not Quite! ! You still need the RSR 3" With Mag-Na-Porting Product code #102715 Good luck, only 500 made in 1996!
jcelect

You also are forgetting the very elusive "Super K" built for Lew Horton, I believe about 156 made. Performance Center gun with three inch "slab side" barrel, Mag-Na-Porting and faux ivory magna grips.

They sell for insane money.

Very nice collection you have there!! Plenty of love for the 3" 66 here too! These are the nicest 66s IMO. Aesthetically I think they are the best-looking 3" S&W revolvers ever made. Although in terms of balance I do prefer the bull barrels of the 3" 65s.

I recently purchased this pristine unfired 66-2 from Gunbroker. It came with the original Magna grips, but I had to change it to one of the nicest original-finish round target stocks I've seen that I recently purchased from a member of this board.

I don't know how I missed your post earlier....

Those round-butt targets are gorgeous! They have some of the best grain that I have seen in some time.

I have a nice pair, stashed away, for a rainy day ;)

I sold an early 4" 66 that was my first LE carry gun and purchased a 2.5" 66-2 back in the early 80's. Never cared for the 2.5" so I sold it and went on the hunt for a 3". Eventually found one NIB for $500. I like the longer sight radius and the full length ejector rod for kicking out the .357"s. I also have a 3" 686 CS-1. Like SAFireman, I had never seen one and then found two of them within a couple of weeks. I later sold one to offset the cost of keeping the other one.
