Will a 1917 45 acp cylinder fit into a Triple Lock. I have a cut down TL in 44 and a 455 TL barrel and am working on a project to convert to 45LC.. Can not find a Smith to bore the TL 44 cylinder out to 45LC, thought the 45acp cylinder might be an lighter task. Your thoughts.

You won't be able to headspace a .45acp cylinder for .45LC. The rim gap is too much. The 1917 cylinder is headspaced for .45 Auto Rim case heads. As for rechambering your .44 cylinder, why not just buy or rent a chamber reamer? I've rechambered several different calibers. Go slow and use plenty of cutting fluid. The .44 rim thickness is the same a .45LC so headspace will be correct. Also, the existing cylinder is already fitted and timed for that gun. It will save you a bunch of time and effort.

I would also get my own reamer (rent or own) and rechamber the .44 Special cylinder. While it is possible to short chamber the .45 ACP so that the .45 Colt cartridges will headspace correctly, I've never cared for that type of rechambering.

not knowing the cylinder over all length specifics---

it could be that the forcing cone for the TL bbl will not reach back far enough to an ACP/auto rim cylinder if it is shorter than the OEM 45LC cylinder was?

with the third lock ejector rod housing spring loaded plunger lock pin dimensions to retain this project could get complicated.

i have a TL converted from .455 to 45LC that used an original triple lock 45LC bbl with a much earlier serial number stamped in it, maybe we could do some horse swapping? would love a chopped 44 special more just because i prefer that caliber.
