How bad did I mess up by not bidding this higher?

It sold at about what it’s worth. It appears to be 4” blued with an uncut barrel, but reblued and with replaced stocks. After you add in commissions, sales tax, FFL fees, and shipping, it’s no longer a bargain.
I think its actually a cut barrel.
The info should be on the right side there, and it looks like its on top.

Pretty good looking gun, or at least it would be with some pre-war stocks of some flavor and a re-finish of the stud/hammer/trigger back to case color.
It's a surprisingly good old refinish, given they blued the wrong parts.
As to the price?
The buyer over paid given the modification(s?) and re-finish.
Refinished value is probably 2K.
This is where experienced eyes pay off. I missed the blued hammer and trigger.....
Well, better photographs are necessary. I’m not exactly convinced where the barrel address is or was and assumed the path of least resistance. Not cut but the 3 line barrel address on the side of the barrel was buffed off at the time of refinishing. Of course, what you state is certainly possible, as well.
I figured I'd have a least 1500 in it by the time I had it in hand.
Look close, you can see text on top behind the front sight there.
Also, none of the other markings are buffed out, you would see some kind of sign of such aggressive buffing on the right side of the barrel.
Of course I'm not the most knowledgeable guy on these. I've owned an original 4" and the text there was unmistakable. My other triple locks have all had longer barrels so the text was on top. I'm more than willing to be corrected on the address on top 4" guns if such existed.
The fact that you didn't get it suggests the good Lord was looking out for you
