Trying to Like My Sigma...

Hope you're not referring to me. I let you slide last time when you made the cute pep squad comment, but no more!

Off my back now!

The mods would not have to shut this thread down if somebody was mature enough not to have the last word.

And most mods I know don't appreciate being told how to do their job by members.

Is it possible to get this thread back on track now?

I wasn't but, maybe you should examine your role in these continuing Sigma wars. This is not the only forum that you hold this position. If these challenges about the Sigma were left to die on the vine this would be a much better place for all.I'm just expressing an opinion like everyone else here.I shoot a Sigma too, shot one before I got one.No surprises except to the positive side, does what I bought it for. This may not be the last word in this thread but it is the last one from me. Shoot safe and shoot often.

I'll say it again...

For those of us who have figured out the Sigma and shoot with accuracy; shoot often, have fun! :D

For those of you who can't figure out the Sigma; sell it ASAP. Buy something you can figure out and have fun with. :D

Good luck on your quest! I hope you find the right firearm for you..357 mag

As I said, good luck. Sounds like you need to sell your Sigma.

Since you like my quotes.

All jokes aside, You seemed a little on the defense from about the 3 post in.It sounded like you had all the answers before you even posted. The gun doesn't work for you. Then find one that will. I still stand by the Sigma. For the money, It is very valued gun. Is there other guns out there that are a good value? Yes. Go find the best value for you.

Folks... It's only a lead spitting machine. :/
Who cares what some think about it? "pro or con"..
No machines are perfect..
The Sigma is a defense weapon. No more, no less.
For the price I paid for mine, I think it was a pretty
good deal. It does what I bought it for, which is to
protect myself from animals that would like to eat my
legs off. And it will do just fine if the booger man decides
to bother me here at the Ponderosa, or at the OK corral.
I'm not going to miss what I'm shooting at at the usual
short ranges involved in a defense situation.

Watch me kill this little can with the "then new" totally stock
Sigma. That was right after I bought it.
http://home.comcast.net/~disk100/killacan.wmv

If I can hit that, a hulking hairy legged booger man is going
to be a piece of cake.. :/

I've tinkered with mine to the point it actually shoots
pretty danged well, and I'm quite satisfied with it.
It's a lot better now, than when I killed that can.

But it ain't for everyone. Just the plastic alone is
enough to turn some people off.. So be it.

At the present, I like mine, and that's all that matters.
I'm the only one that uses it, and it's not like I'm forcing
it on anyone else.
Sorry, I just can't get too emotional over a $300 pistol. :/

Two magazines Federal 180gr FMJ at 10 yards rapid fire. Target is printed on 8 1.2x11 printer paper. 51 years old, arthritis in both hands but I will admit it was a good day for me. Been needing new glasses for a couple years, but for close work like this seem to be ok. Pistol seems to work fine to me. Guess I got one of the good ones.

Once again, I call upon the mods to shut this thread down.

Gentlemen, I have a great deal of respect for you because of the many great and informative posts I've read in the past. However, a couple folks are trying to steer things back in the right direction here, and this doesn't help.

To get back on topic (again...):

Got one of those too! Once I took care of all of my defensive needs with various guns, then I started filling gaps for specific purposes that I thought I needed. One of the last gaps for me is what I call "fun guns" or "range toys". Which for me would be guns that don't see any other use other than getting taken to the range for fun shooting, shooting reactive targets, milk jugs, old pumpkins, watermelons, that sort of thing. So when I got the Sigma, I though since I have all of my specific gaps filled, this can be my first "fun gun". I guess since I had no previous knowlege of the gun, it's mainly my fault for trying to put in a category that it was no designed for.

I'm a bit jealous...

:)

I don't have many firearms, myself. Enough to take care of defensive stuff, but no "range toys."

Good call on the Ruger .22 pistol. How about revolvers? I'm just starting to tread the waters of six-shooters. Actually, technically eight-shooters, since my first full-size revolver rental was a model 627 which was one heck of a good time.

As I said, consider that Sigma a utilitarian gun. If you can spend some quality time with it and become modestly proficient, it'll make a great defensive pistol. As nogoodnamesleft stated, it's nice to own a gun that you could lose to an evidence locker and not care about it one whit. Like how you might buy a $2,000 double-barreled shotgun for hunting, but the one behind the closet door in your bedroom is an old $150 pump. ;)

When I had my Sigma it really wasn't hard to get a good grouping of shots. I really don't understand why so many say this pistol is a bad gun. I loved my Sigma and am planning on getting another one at some point.

My 2 cents

I am a fairly new shooter and the Sigma is one of my 4 handguns. I won't get into brand names to argue-I have a subcompact 9mm, a 357 magnum, a "semi compact" all steel 9mm and the sw40ve. The sigma is what I carry all day every day. I find the sigma very comfortable to carry around and for self defense I feel pretty well armed with 14+1 of .40. I absolutely love the way this gun feels in my hand and I had Blade Tech make me a Nano IWB holster(at no extra cost) which adds to the comfort. As far as a range gun it's definately not my favorite but it is fun to shoot. I believe the ergonomics have helped me become comfortable shooting a .40 caliber handgun. The bumpy gritty trigger was not fun at all but I was able to polish the internal components and wear it in and it's a pretty smooth stroke and isn't as heavy as everyone says either. The trigger pull is long and has forced me to really focus on my technique , I have good days and bad days with it but on a bad day I would be able to defend myself and after getting "pretty good" with a striker fired dao polymer 40, my steel 9mm with the crisp sa trigger is a freaking tack driver and a half! And even though it's not (in my hands) the most accurate range gun it is still a lot of fun for me to shoot at the range. I've heard others say this but it has made me a better shooter and also helped me become familiar with how a handgun really works. I'm not law enforcement or military but I have seen people shot to death more than once and most recently right in front of my apartment building(the victim was 12years old and ran down and shot multiple times by a grown man) not too far from where I was standing. Where I live I know there is actualy a pretty fair chance I may have to use it and I'm confident when I need it to it will function and that I will be able to hit my target. Is it the last and only gun I will conceal carry? Heck no, when I have the money and have done my research and find something as comfortable to handle and carry and is a "tack driver" that will be my conceal carry piece but until then when I leave the apartment with my wife and daughter in tow my sigma will lay down any fool that threatens us. (but my wife should probably hide it from me if I find the ***h073 that stole the gas out of my truck last night!)

LOL... This thing has been BEAT 2 DEATH... Love it or leave it point blank period... I love my Sigma .40VE I love my 1911 and my .357 but the sigma is helping my aim with them all... and buy the way if you havent seen the crimson trace laser 4 the sigma, Then ur missing out on the coolest most unique F-in laser I have evere seen 4 any pistol...
Thank you and good night

The LG-406? I just Google'd it and... wow! That's sharp looking!

Only problem would be finding a holster to accomodate the extra size in the trigger guard.

I've been collecting guns for a number of years now so I guess I'm more fortunate that others in regard to the number of guns I have. I might even take that for granted. But to answer your question, yes I own several revolvers. A Colt D-back, 2 Pythons (1 shooter and 1 safe queen), a S&W 60, 66, and 27. I probably spend the most time shooting revolvers at the range. But other than the Ruger, I don't have a dedicated centerfire range toy. The Ruger is fun to shoot and deadly accurate, but sometimes a guy wants to feel a little more power than shooting a .22 all the time.

As for utilitarian, I can appreciate that. One of my truck guns is a Polish P-64. Read some posts about those and you'll see the trigger on those are worse than the Sigma. It'a blow-back design and recoil is almost punishing. 100 rounds is about all anyone can shoot with it before the web of their hand gets too raw. I'm not sure why, but I can shoot circles around the Sigma with that little gun. And those are about $180! So I don't need to have a 4lb trigger on my guns to shoot them accurately. But there's just something about the Sigma that I can't seem to master, as someone has been putting it.

I've decided to give the FIL a call this weekend and feel him out on whether he would be offended if I sold or traded his gift.

Probably the best bet in the long run. I'll doubt that he'll be offended if you tell him that you just can't get a handle on the trigger.

Any idea what you'll buy with the proceeds? :D

I'm thinking I'm going to watch the GB auctions and see if I can pick up a nice condition Model 39.

I just bought a Hi-Power yesterday, so I kind of need to slow down a little bit. Sometimes I get carried away with buying guns. :o

It's obvious Dragon88 doesn't know what he's talking about. You master the Sigma, you can master any handgun. If your not man enough to master the Sigma, you best stick to a Crossman 10 Pump BB Gun. You may want to have THAT trigger modified. :D

Looks like Dragon88 would let the Sigma get the best of him. IF he has ever owned a Sigma. Maybe he put a few rounds through it and ran. Point, set, match. Dragon88, you lose! Sigma 1 Dragon88 0.

POS? So YOU say. It's obvious others disagree with you. I would think you want to master ANY firearm you are handeling. Sigma can, and has been mastered. It's a fine handgun.

Oh yes this thread is still going, I forgot about it. I wouldn't take a Sigma if someone offered it to me for free. It wouldn't even have trade-in value because my local shop doesn't take them. They "can't in good faith sell them to their customers". But I'm glad you have mastered your "fine handgun", that's really something to be proud of. If only competition shooters would realize the error of their ways and get rid of those 1911s. Point set match to Sigma!

Until the significant other finds out...

I'm thinking that's going to be pretty soon. The gun should be coming in to my FFL today or tomorrow. If it doesn't come in until tomorrow then I can put off telling her until Monday! That gives me the weekend to really do a lot of housecleaning and laundry, maybe even a nice dinner, so she's in a good when I break the news...
