Bought my 4506-1 with 6 factory magazines (black followers).
Seller had one price for gun with 2 mags and another price for gun + 6 mags.
Bought all 6 knowing I could easily sell individually later for more than I paid.

I have 4 to 8 mags for every auto gun I own.

If it's TEOTWAWKI , " THE BIG ONE" ....... or just a stroll through "The Walking Dead"...... you just can't have too many mags!!!!!
Now Bam! Don't go getting carried away with a "how many magazines is enough" twist on this. :p That is NOT the question of the day! :)

This is about the best selling strategy... no more, no less! :D

Yep. :) My 4506 (No Dash) came with a ton of magazines as well... and I was grateful for it. ;)

It's fine for a seller to offer options, but that can work against the seller as well. I have seen it with my own eyes. I'm talking the buyer attitude that "if you've got them, I want them"... with the gun or no deal. :o

As a buyer, I would be pleased to get at least two... one in the gun and an extra... as I recall that's kinda factory protocol on nib... but.... if there's more mags in the deal and the price really doesn't reflect the extra mags my ears perk up... and my wallet is likely to come out pretty quickly...

I think we all know where we stand as buyers! :D The more the merrier as long as the overall price remains competitive and doable. ;) But what about you as a seller trying to optimize your financial return and turn-around time? That's the big question! :D

And, by the way, I'd love to know for each 3rd Gen model how many magazines came in the box from the factory? Is there a general rule of thumb? Or did it vary? I imagine most "non-cop" pistols included one spare (two total)... yes?

The 3rd gens I've been able to score in the box mostly came with 2 mags, unless the seller either didn't have the second mag when he acquired it or rat holed the extra... as a seller, I would include 2 mags... maybe a third if that's what it would take to close the deal... no I wouldn't! lol... 2 mags tops!

I expect two with the purchase of any semi auto. I walk if they say one. I do get excited at 3 but no more excitement if they offered 4 or5 with the sale. My vote is 3 but at least 2.

It's funny. Whenever I see a used 3rd Gen for sale with just one magazine, I know there's no box with it. ;) Whatever the dude did with the box, he probably did the same with any spare magazine he got with it... namely, he lost it. :p There are some notable/interesting exceptions, but that's the rule. :D

Because I am buying all used and some very old, I try to figure out what is original and what may have been added to the seller's stash. Sometimes, it's pretty obvious what was original and what was added later. Sometimes, not. But I'd sure love to know for each of my used S&W pistols (3rd Gens and SW99's mostly) exactly how many magazines were original with the factory box. :o

Yeah... lost it as it's in with the rest of his mag stash!!!

Help a po' boy out ;)
Actually, my goof. They are all CS45 magazines. :D

Funny thing about them too. Last one I bought was marked for Model's 457, 4516, etc... but it sure looked short! :D Got home and sure 'nuff... I had just accidentally purchased another CS45 magazine! ;)

If you want, I'll keep a lookout for you while doing my own 3rd Gen magazine bargain hunting. :)

Could be. ;) But I'm thinking that a lot of these 3rd Gens I'm seeing locally... particularly smaller frame carry gun trade-ins... are folks "upgrading" (wink, wink) to modern plastic wonder guns who really aren't big quantity magazine folks.

It always amazes me how many such "trade-ups" are spur-of-the-moment or impulse buys... or so I am being told by the various reselling dealers. I guess not everyone is like us! :p

You got that right! I'm glad I share this addiction with others here... I would seek help but that's like asking for understanding from your buddy who is after the same mags as I am... for instance... has anyone got any spare 4013TSW mags to help feed my addiction?

What is this selling of a 3G pistol you speak of? This is a concept alien to me.

If I were to sell, it would come with one in the gun and a spare. One mag alone in the gun and it might as well be a revolver,.....and a slow reloading revolver at that. Any more than two mags total is a waste on 90% of buyers who are unable to keep track of anything more than two anyway. Most people are little better than crows at counting.

The only exception to the two mag rule would be if I were giving a gun to someone. In that case I'd include two spares and take the time to explain why any autoloader requires a minimum of three magazines, but again, any extra beyond the three will probably just get lost. It takes a special kind of sickness to feel as if you actually need more than three magazines,.......a sickness I'm sure we all share. Point being that no 'normal' person needs or wants more than three. The fact that we all probably need 20 just shows how super-normal we are.
