Old shooting friend and I planned a day trip to the range.

Before going, it was, I know exactly what he's going to bring
again, and he knows exactly what I'm going to bring again.

Decided this was going to be a different day, told him to dig
back in his safe's and bring what hasn't seen daylight in decades.

It was a phenomenal range trip.

He brought an Armalite180, HK 91, and a British SMLE

I think I beat him in the obscure,
with a T/C Super 14 35 Rem, an H&R 157 Mannlicher 30-30
and an Arisaka T38.

His Brit SMLE and my Arisaka were both gifted to us
by WW2 Fathers,

It was a hoot of a great time sharing the forgotten.

Sounds like a great day, who made the AR-180? It's on my list of grail rifles I don't need but will find. Just gotten pricy.

Between myself and a few buddies, we also seem to get in the slump of bringing the favorites and the others rarely see the light of day. What we try to do now is to pick a single caliber and just stick with that for the day.

Thank you for the "post of the day." What fun to reminisce and enjoy a day shooting with a good friend. I would say you were about tied for cool guns. Actually, he edged you! (but not by much).

The Portland (Oregon) Police Bureau SWAT team had Costa Mesa AR18's in the mid-70's. Used them to good effect on a few occasions.

Always thought it kinda strange that all three makers were in very gun-unfriendly locations, CA, Japan and UK (tho I hear the IRA did favor the Sterling model.

That's only because it was easier for them to get the Sterlings. Actually, the Howa was the best made (finished) of the three. I know, because I've owned one for about 30 years.
