TX vs MT

I was working down in Sweeny TX and this "snow storm" shut down the job and the town, even the schools and restaurants were closed. The driveway of the motel.

HURRY!
RUSH to the store for bread, milk, and toilet paper!!!
PRAY for survival!!!

Mud is similar to snow not exactly the same, but similar.

Anyone who has done any off roading under muddy conditions has the skill to drive in snow. Understanding momentum, traction control and smooth movements is all it takes.

The section of 90 that gets closed a lot is between Livingston and Big Timber. Winds hit a long wall mountains running north to south and turns them usually to the SE and the road runs east west so it causes some serious cross winds. This is the second windiest place in the US and the wind will hit over 90mph. Late last week they had gust over 65. Combine wild gusty cross winds with with icy roads and the semis and travel trailers have serious problems. I have seen a semi trailer lift its wind side rear tires over a ft off the ground. It is not unusual to see a highway sign in that area missing pieces.

If a hurricane hit Montana we wouldn't have any serious flooding. Most of our homes are also built on solid foundations . We do occasionally has tornadoes.

We do not have cockroaches or rats. Our homeless problem isn't all that bad either. Although high dollar out of staters moving in and inflating property values and rent in the "place to be areas" has made it difficult for working people to pay the freight in cities like Missoula, Bozeman, Whitefish, and the like. One of my shooting buddies is a realtor and he says that in the little town I live in there hasn't been anything nothing left for rent for quit a while and about the only way to get a house is have it build.

We also get -30 temps and don't sell out of milk, bread or toilet paper.
I am 50 miles W of Bozopolis and have not seen a for rent sign or ad in 2 years.

In Bozo you would be lucky to get a 1 bedroom apt for $2600. I know someone who sold a home on Lake Union in Seattle and spend the money buying a small house in Bozo.

Bozeman is nuts, The Whitefish, Columbia Falls area the same and anywhere near Missoula ain't much better. Lost of Dot cons and trust funders. You can always join the Big Sky Home owners association, just stick a million bucks in their trust fund and submit your architectural drawings for approval

Last Wednesday I woke up in South Texas to 28 with a 20 mph+ wind I needed a second jacket before leaving to the airport to fly to New Hampshire. Thursday morning I woke up to 2 degrees and only wore one of the jackets I brought. Sunday going to Kittery Trading Post I wore a long sleeve shirt with 36 degrees. By the time we got back it was 40 and I was in shorts and flips flops. Up north it seems every other person has a snow plow so it can snow but by morning streets are clean. It's either cold or colder. Wife and I got back on Monday to 70+ degrees, I thought I was going to sweat to death. Only in the south can you go from 20 to 70+ in a few days, sometimes the same day. Its that hot to cold back to hot that sucks here in South Texas. I was able to spend five days with my grandson which was everything.

My chiropractor is also the Jr HS girls basketball coach. He told me last Saturdays, when it was in the low 40s, everyone of them showed up for practice wearing shorts.

In TX the guys at work were wearing coveralls, hoodies, coats and face masks when it was in the 50s.

I tell you what. You can have your warm winters, because they come with summers that resemble living inside a sauna.

Everything is bigger in Texas, except their snow storms. Pansies

Hardly. I ran the tool room. I handed out mostly small and medium gloves, a few large and very few XL. My brother, a guy from Louisiana and I were the only ones who wore the XXLs. Hardly any of the men were over 6' and 200#.

I had some fun though. Guy comes up and says give me a pipe wrench I would lay a steel 48" pipe wrench on the bench. Just ask for a hammer and you get a 20# beater. Impact wrench would get them a 80# spline drive. Didn't take long for them to learn to call out exactly what they wanted.

I am off to Anacortes Washington Saturday for about 8 weeks. Then I will probably take the rest of the year off. :D
