I just hope it's true...and not some disinformation campaign to make our enemies think our capabilities are much greater than they really are.

Man! Hush, darn it...

No, no, these WORK. AND we have LOTS of them, okay? See? Yeah...

Actually, we were involved in a fair amount of proving that stuff like this works, before getting it out to the fleet, and I think that made the job kinda cool.

Two hits out of four tests is good, but not real protection from a large scale nuclear attack.
True. That is tough, perhaps impossible, problem to solve. MAD did work for the forty years of the Cold War though.

And the Star Wars effort of the Reagan years, many believe, won us the Cold War in that it wound up breaking the Soviet bank as they tried to play catch up.

For rogue nuclear states, nuclear terrorism, these kinetic kill missiles, especially as the efficacy increases, will be an asset. (Not a solution. An asset.)

Diplomacy is the best solution. Conducting diplomacy when your are strong is much better than when you are weak. Letting the other guy know you will block his blows and counter in a devastating fashion shows strength. Never think you can get into a fight without absorbing a few blows before defeating your foe. With nukes, that left hook and right jab that get through can cause tremendous damage.

We had satellite killers before Reagan. When I was a contractor at Vought Aero in the mid '70s they had one they'd developed.
It was in a case IN THE LOBBY. It looked like a coffee can with a lens on one end and what looked like toilet paper tubes (Guidance rockets) around the circumference.
When Star Wars got started, it promptly was designated top secret and disappeared.
They actually killed a supposedly defunct satellite with a test in '85. The satellite was actually operational and some people got in a lot of trouble.

By some estimates the USSR was bankrupt by 1967. It took the Reagan years and Star Wars for them to admit it to themselves.
